AVRI 65 Jaguar?

Okay, so binding, "reformulated" colors, and new pickups. I'm still not seeing where that extra $600 is going, but whatever...BearBoy wrote:Well, according to their marketing blurb:dren68 wrote:What I don't understand is why someone would pay THAT much more for essentially the same guitar. The only difference is the bound neck and some new fancy schmancy lacquer, right?
The pickups are listed in the specs as being "New American Vintage '65 Jaguar® (Neck)/(Bridge)" so I guess they differ from the '62 AVRI ones.Fender Marketing Blurb wrote:Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, we’ve completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept—restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more—based on actual vintage guitars we tracked down to make sure we had it right. We did the work, and it shows, because there’s pure tonal magic in each new American Vintage instrument.
The '62 AVRIs have disappeared from the Fender website so it looks like they probably are being replaced.dren68 wrote:I just hope these aren't replacing the 62 AVRIs. If they are, I might have to get another one (or 3).
This does create a pretty sizable gap between the AVRI and CP range. Wonder if an American Standard Jag might be around the corner?
I guess an American Standard Jag would be cool as long as it's vintage specs. That does kind of make sense if they're planning on putting those out to be priced between the CPs and these new AVs. Or maybe the 50th Anniversary and JM Jags are replacing the AVRIs since they're the same price. Either way, I'm perfectly happy with my 62 AVRI Jags and I'll be keeping them for a long, long time. They might have just went up in value, too.
I think they've basically reformatted due to all the cheaper variations of Jaguar you can get now from Squier -> CP. They've essentially put the AV experience closer in $$$ to actually buying vintage, which is bullshit but it's happened to all the AV guitars at some point. The prices on those are only ever going up.

No, but it looks FUCKING AWESOMEdren68 wrote:Someone on the OSG forum said that they should getting more colors eventually, although it's still not worth that ridiculous price. Plus, what's the big deal about binding? Does it make a difference in the way it sounds?dots wrote:dude. . . my avri jag was worth the $1200 or so i paid for it new 7 years ago, but there's no way adding binding to it makes the value somehow climb to double that. the build quality is superb, the parts are all top shelf, and it's just a great all around instrument, arguably worth north of a grand (no, sorry, not a single squier i have played even approaches it). but $2400 to add binding, and you get only two colors to choose from?
do one, fender.

Neck binding looks nice. It *may* make the edge of the 'board/neck feel different, but I doubt it. Maybe that's just me. Purely cosmetic.
If the main changes are indeed cosmetic ones the least they could've done is offer more colours...a CAR or olympic white JM for instance would look great. I wouldn't be surprised if these depreciated to a similar price to the '62s in a few years actually...both are very nice guitars but the only thing that would make me choose one over a '62 - or an original - is the availability, because heaven knows there's not much of a difference in terms of specs.
It does make me wonder what Fender have in the pipeline if these are anything to go by.

Totally, and if you're willing to go for a vintage with a couple of changed parts or a refin you can get them even cheaper. My '67 has other vintage Jag parts (they're actually older) and one more recent, tho vintage voiced pickup and that was under £900 including shipping from the US.Mike wrote:I got my all original 1966 Jaguar for considerably less than they're aiming to sell these for
LOL
I put together my CAR '64 Jag for about a quarter of what these are priced at.

A friend at work saw an original 1960s Tele on sale near where we live for around the same price that the '64 RI is likely to go for. Which is my main issue with the pricing of these: it doesn't make a lot of sense if you can find an original.Thomas wrote:Totally, and if you're willing to go for a vintage with a couple of changed parts or a refin you can get them even cheaper. The vid is of course promotional speak, but it does suggest that they've at least gone to a lot of time and effort to make decent products. The final line is pretty much true of course: trying one out is the only way to really know if they're worth owning or whether it's indeed marketing blurb.
Ultimately I'd have to 1. be in a better-paid job to afford it and 2. fall out of love with my own guitar, take it into a shop, try out both and experience a noticeable enough difference in the AVRI's sound and 'feel' to say, "sure, I'll part-ex it for my own." I'm not saying it's impossible; it's just unlikely.

The video, particularly the First Impressions one with all those Fender Endorsees (pay attention kids) is inspiring and warm and fuzzy, but I've been fooled before by this stuff. Talk is cheap, so see how one of these plays before you drop the cash (obviously). I'll definitely try the Jaguar when it comes out, because I am interested - not in buying, but seeing what changes if any they have made to the AVRIs, but I had to laugh when some of the comments people on the video were making were like "WOW look the one ply Guard"
I mean seriously, people are impressed they made the Guard the old cheap way?
Fuck my eyes.

Edit: They've got them up at Musician's Friend now:

Jazzmaster: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... ric-guitar

Nah... not really. I just meant I understood that there were a few more differences than I initially thought there were. At first, it seemed like they just slapped a bound neck on an AVRI. I still think they're WAY overpriced. I'm not sure why so many people are freaking out over them when you could buy a vintage one for about the same price. I guess because it's something new.Mike wrote:haha you fell for the advert!
If those prices do translate $ to £ then I paid around that for a 64 Jazzmaster with a late 60's refin and all original parts. From a shop. With a guarantee.
Now which one of those would I prefer?
I can't see the point in anyone buying the AVRI one, you'd lose a massive amount of the price you paid just walking out the door. I appreciate I probably paid a premuim buying my JM from a shop, but I'd imagine I'd get most of my money back if I had to sell.
