How to get a 'swirly' paint finish

Post by Concretebadger »

I'm not sure if this has been posted here already, but I really like this simple-yet-effective way of getting a randomised two-tone swirling effect:

The example in this vid is yellow/black, but they've done a red/black version too. I personally prefer that combo over the yellow but I reckon a blue/white colour scheme would be nice as well. Worth remembering if you're doing a custom job and want something a bit different for the painting perhaps?

It's far from simple, it is a tricky thing to do and get right. I tried the old ennamel paint and sodium borate method with very little sucess. From doing more research there are easier ways now with other types of paint, I've just never got around to trying it again.

I think this paint scheme looks great on certain guitars.

They generally use discount colors instead of choosing something subtle or tasteful.
