Ok. It looks like its not his from what the seller just sent me but one never knows. His was STOLEN. No ones gonna say "hey I stole thurston moores guitar" haha. But I asked the guy what's the story on it and he said..
"This body is from a '66 Mustang I bought used in 1974. Over the years I "Frankensteined" it- Put Strat pups in it, active electronics, ultimately made an Adrian Belew inspired monster- synth pickup, EMG's, Kahler trem. Many original parts lost over the years (pups, tuners, switches). Recently I found a clean '66 body and swapped the neck and the original parts that were left over to that. Restored it to semi-original in Sonic Blue. So here's the poor old first body collecting dust. I MIGHT sell the blue guitar... thinking about it. "

It's not Thurston's because the angled 5-way switch probably wouldn't fit in that cavity, the Kahler story checks out (but not a Mustang bridge) and the switch route/control cavity have white paint in them but the pickup/bridge areas don't, which would indicate it was routed after it was painted white, but that's not Thurston's white paintjob due to the different wear/damage. If it was refinished after it was Thurston's guitar it means someone went to great lengths to mask off the sloppy hacked routes that wouldn't even show, which seems a bit pointless.

And yeah, the damage is different but it's still damaged. Why would you disguise a stolen guitar just to make it look like the stolen one again?

More likely this was a Belewcaster homage like the guy said.

I guess so. I hope I can fix it upto accept the mustang vibrato. I still don't understand why there are them metal balls there. Still think I might make a Thurston Tribute.

imo, there's no reason not to turn this into a replica of his, as you'll never find a body more suited to it then this one.
