Deal or No Deal?

Been offered an as new Peavey 1x12 Valve King 50w Combo- Â£180.
Tempted. Sound a good deal?
To anyone that has had one; are they reliable and are they heavy bastards (like most Peavey amps)?

I reckon you'd only be buying it because it was cheap. Looks a bit boring to me.

Hmm. You could be right.
I was thinking of portability and volume. Otherwise, the time will come i need a better quality 1x12 for the Orange TT and the Orange ones are over Â£200, which doesn't excite me.

I had one. To answer your questions, they are pretty reliable in that mine didn't crap out on me, and they're no more weighty than any other 1x12 I've hefted.

They sound pretty good, the cleans are a bit uninspiring but reasonable, it does teh high gainz much better than the low gain tones, but altogether not a shabby amp. There are loads of 'mods' all over the internet, which I tried a few of with variable benefits. I think I sold mine a couple of years back for Â£180 so it's probably not a bad price to pay for it. Definately give it a try and see if it's your kind of amp first though.

Alternatively, pester Dave to sell you my old Orange 1x12, I regret getting rid of that solid little bugger.

I had a Valveking for a while when they first came out. It was alright, and completely reliable, but nowt special.

Ahhh, fook it. I'm not gonna bother and stick to my guns of downsizing the amount of equipment i have.

However, if David does want to rid himself of the cab i may be interested at a later date. It would look the business in the Oasis band but i'm nowhere near gigging with them yet.

Looked at it. Doesn't look overly hard, especially not for you, and there are a few places that sell some pretty good-looking ply, but all adds up to at least Â£50-Â£70. You could probably whittle that right down looking around, but then it's time and effort as well. I'd rather save my fingers and back and wait to see a SWEET DEAL come up on eBay or something.
