Boss Silver Screw Score!

I just picked these up last night from Craigslist and unbeknownst to me, they were the desirable(to collectors) silver screws.
On first impression the DS-1 nails the KURTZ in spades, the EQ just looks cool, after all it is just an EQ.

That there DS-1 is one of my favourite dirt pedals ever. The long dash silver screw models are ace.
A silver screw GE-6 is a pretty nice pedal too.

Yeah, I've heard alot of people diss the DS-1, I can't understand why, even the newer ones sound good to me.

If you have a newer one, then A/B them. The difference is MASSIVE. New ones sound 'artificial' whereas the old ones sound 'organic'. if that makes sense. I sound like a bit of a tit when I say that, but I don't know how else to put it. The Keeley modded newer DS-1's bring back some of that organic tone, but they couldn't lace a proper vintage pedals boots. FACT

Cool, I haven't AB'd them, its only from memory and from hearing others play them and I liked the sounds they got.

What's this about silver screws?? Is that simply a feature of older BOss versions of their pedals with different guts?

Silver Screws are when you do your civic duty to pleasure a lonely retiree, er, not really

Its just a cosmetic feature that Boss pedals made from 1978? to 1980 that have it, then they went to the familiar black plastic one.

So do they actually have electrically (?) different mojo shizzle in them when compared to latter-day versions?

My housemate pronouces it 'bose'. He may even be correct as I've never bothered to check....but stil, Imma punch him in his kidney next time....LIKE A BOSS

Some, yes. The DS-1 has went through a few changes, whereas the SD-1, which did come with the SS for a short period is apparently still exactly the same as the day of conception. (ACA supply aside which is a minor change to the power ciruit I believe)
I think some of the older pedals were also just build with better quality components.
As mentioned, the silver screw was purely cosmetic, but can be an indicator to age. The long dash between the 'DS' and the '1' is a better indication.
I suppose the treadle and screw could have been replaced at some point, but I think this is unlikely.

I always thought the neg rep with this pedal was that everyone says that a bunch of famous musicians used them, then kids plug them in and sound nothing like them. I like mine. My first pedal, and has had the crap beaten out of it and still works. Sounds alright for what I paid for.

Bose is pronounced Bose, but Boss is pronounced Boss. As one would expect..
