1970 Yamaha SG7 - UPDATE: THE GUTS

Post by Dave »

If you saw this in the classifieds you know about it... expect fuller details soon..... but for the moment here's a pic of my housemate holding it, and one of me invoking the demons of the Goetia through SHRED.

Apart from the GOALDZ, what are the differences between an SG-5 and an SG-7?

Benecol - Weeeellll there is a greater mystery I believe but I need to pull it apart to check before I open my gob about it....this will happen at the weekend I suspect. The neck plate is not actually holding the neck on, they just screw to the body to cover the truss hole. The dude didn't have it, and I didn't ask if he'd lost it or a previous owner. I'll be keeping my eye out for one but i suspect it'll be a rare event to find one for sale. Will be trying to fit a spare jag trem arm, general set up and some lubing - the whole works - until I have anally optimised everything.

Latlat - I honestly don't know, but I'm fairly sure its a 7 based on the gold alone but the info available in English on the net is pretty damn sparse and less than detailed.

Looks like the Yamaha SGV-300 with a hardtail, am I seeing this right? No tremolo?

Congrats!

Well done Dave, this is something i really want to have a go on. Yamaha have always made good gear, they just lost the plot aesthetically in the 80's.
Must be a keeper!?!

Vibes are good right now: it's got a similar vibe to my 1959 guyatone...it's got something good about it but is odd at the same time. I generally find that leads to a keeper. Time will tell! It's already a lot of fun though.
