Oly white VM Jags

Post by Noisy Cat »

Almost definitely gonna be getting me a Squier Jag fairly soon - just gotta decide which colour.

Green - I know they're popular, but the green just doesn't do it for me. (I already have the sonic blue JM.)

Sunburst - meh. Plus, it seems that the quality of these finishes has been variable (I'll be ordering 'blind' online). I've just sold a sunburst CP Jag, so I fancy something different to that.

Red - hmmm maybe, although I've never been that keen on red guitars (Everton supporter, etc). Possibly with a mint or tort guard.

White - siding with this at the moment. Am I right in thinking that it's very white? Unlike the creamy-white of the 65RI Mustang, for example? Perhaps a mint guard would look good. Has anyone changed the guard on their Olympic white VM Jag - can you post pics?

Sunburst and a new mint guard is a good scheme. Slightly unusual.

Mine is Oly White, and it is very white. It makes my jmjm look possitively cream. It's not bad, I like it, but it is very white. I think it'll look ace with a black guard if I can be arsed getting one. I liked the CAR, but felt that it needed a matching headstock to be complete.

I got the Oly Jag back in early July. it's white as white as can be. The tort is really nice, much better than the more red pickguard on my MIJ early 90s Bass VI. the red looks cheap and tacky.

for some reason to me, the jag should be oly/tort, followed by CAR or LPB.

I'm gonna want an off-white guard for it, so trying to decide between mint and parchment. Not sure which would go best with the PURE BRILLIANT WHITE - help, anyone?

I've played a white VMJM at a local Sam Ash. I liked it . At a finish standpoint it's REALLY thin to the point to where some parts on the back of the guitar you can see the grains through the finish . Personally I thought it looked pretty cool but to some maybe they won't .

Make a new guard out of THIS.
Do it. You wont.

I wish there was a dealer around these parts with one of these in stock. I had a mustang and quickly became underwhelmed with it and sold it. I've never owned a Jaguar or a Mustang before. I'm excited to check out a jag.

Haha yeah I was just looking at that one. I'm about 45 minutes' drive away from Nottingham, so based on what I'd spend on petrol I may as well get a new one. (Currently £240 from Thomann.)

Worth noting is that the CAR varies on these. My CAR VMJM and CAR VM Jag are two different colors - the Jazzmaster being an aged CAR with a slightly rust color tint (much like aged CAR looks), and the Jag is more traditional CAR, with just a bit of aged tint.

The Olympic white that I've seen has always been stark white though.
