If you could design a signature guitar...

Post by Gabriel »

what would it be like?

Mine would be as such.

- Single cutaway shape.
- Depth and construction style of an Eastman T186MX.
- Solid flame maple top, solid mahogany back and sides. Completely hollow but with a mahogany support block underneath bridge.
- Fender American Deluxe neck carve - kind of like a chunky D/C shape.
- Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard with the only fretboard markers being two micro dots at the twelfth fret to the side of the fretboard.
- Single neck Vintage Vibe CC pickup and Piezo or shadow nanomag acoustic pickup (to blend in a bit of zing).
- So kind of like the Heritage Kenny Burrell Groovemaster, but with a few tweaks - stop tail, different pickups, slightly different shape. You get the picture.

My tastes vary from time to time but the Jag-Stang and Telebastard that I built were based on everything I wanted at that time. One, a short scale Offset, H/S, mahogany, vintage neck and Jaguar trem. The other a minimalistic workhorse with a more favoured 60's Strat neck.

I'm quite enjoying the luxury of playing a Semi Acoustic myself at the moment. Building one would be way beyond my skills but there are some aesthetics i favour, somewhere between a Casino and Riviera... perhaps.

Something along the line of these: Oversized Mustang body with Jaguar upper.

Epi Dot, Korean one mind. I want to try another fully hollow model like the Aria Pro TA model I had..

Pretty much a Gretsch Spectrasonic. Possibly one in white with black binding.

Fiesta red SG-style body with a black Mustang-style pickguard. Jaguar trem, 24" scale, rosewood fretboard with a Strat-style matching headstock. Not sure on the pickups, possibly Jaguar pickups with plain black covers. About a million switches; on/off for each pickup, parallel/series switch, phase switch, kill switch. One volume knob.

Sounds like an abomination, yes.

Hollowbody, a la Epi Dot, with a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge, Twisted Tele neck pickup, split on the HB and a stranglz switch, and a neck shape/radius like my 78 Musicmaster. F hole only on the upper half of the body, and a rear control panel. Bound neck with white pearl dot inlays, natural finish with translucent stripes (similar to my DeLonge 333), and an unpainted firebird headstock. Except I'd still do the Epi/Gibson logo in white pearl,

That'd be mine.

I'd do that, but with PAF's and in black.

Prolly the Bratocaster. It's pissing me right off at the moment with the snagging but otherwise it's turning into an excellent guitar.

Image

25.5 scale btw. Possibly with a Retrotron in the bridge with a white pickup ring. That's going to set it off.

Awesome! Might sound great with dimarzio injectors

My ideal les paul would have locking tuners/ strap locks. Les paul custom styling. Dimarzio tone zone tweaked for more treble response and air norton tweaked for less bass. Coil tap, extra tall frets like a dunlop 6105 or 6100. Basically some cheap mods to my les paul right now, besides the pricy refret option. My prs custom 24 is perfect as is.

Mine would look like a competition Mustang and sound like a Jazzmaster.

Mine would basically resemble a fully-hollow Gretsch G6122-1962 Country Gentleman (no F-holes, not even the painted ones), but would come in either black, white, or crimson red, with chrome hardware.

- 25.5" scale (instead of the 24.6" of the CG)
- Hi-Lo'Tron in the bridge, TV Jones Classic in the neck
- Creme binding all over the place
- Black pickguard
- No switches on the upper bout, with pickup selector replacing the master volume knob
- No zero fret
- Standard Bigsby B6

i'd probably go for something along these lines:

single bridge pickup with a black cover, black witch hats, dot and bound neck. no idea what all the controls would do, i'd have to think about that.
