Trem adjustment screw on VM Jag/Jazz

What's the point of it if there's no lock button to sync in with?

How should it be adjusted - is it purely for preference? i.e. how stiff/loose you want the trem spring to be?

I agree with you. I think the trem lock button is an important setup feature. I would make it so the trem arm comes out perpendicular to the body. That's how it would sit with a lock and I don't think micro adjustment is that necessary. You will at least get good up and down travel.
