And... intonated! My techs could have done all of this better and faster, but I consider myself to have saved $40. On to my Bronco bass wiring adventure. Quick question: will I be a moron if I use a linear pot for volume?

But it's not just that $40, it's the next $40 and the $40 after that makes it so good. And that you'll get better and try more exciting things. And that you feel good about achieving something that previously scared you. Damn, why you so smug?

Using a linear vs audio pot will mean the volume might roll off quite sharply from loud to quiet in one little hump. Not really a big deal unless you're constantly fiddling with it. If you want to be all prefect, have a few $ spare and aren't desperate for time I would suggest buying audio. I prefer it but it's not to say linear will be "the wrong option".

That's the best part. $40 x 5 guitars x a setup or two a year = more money to buy more guitars. Plus I feel like a total badass.

I usually leave volume on full anyway. I think I have a couple of audio taper pots somewhere, but they're the scratchy ones that came out of my Supersonic, so I may not be doing myself any favors.. I'll give the linear one a try for now and switch it out later if it bugs me. At the moment it's bugging me more that I bought this bass over a month ago and still haven't put it together.

This is great news. Now you will get ocd with guitar set up so that you dink with them more the play them. Did you try the dreaded truss rod adjustment yet?

Just the intonation, or a complete setup? I haven't heard of anybody around here doing the whole enchilada for less than 30.

I tried the truss rod again, but it still didn't want to move, even after a squirt of WD40, so I left it alone. Ideally I would have liked to loosen it just a hair, but it was pretty close as it was.

It's a Bronze series, but I swapped out the stock pups years ago for a '59 and a JB. Oh, and incidentally, the other night I did unearth the only photo I have of the Warlock that got away. Unfortunately I was a teenager with a new digital camera hellbent on making everything look arty, so it does not actually show the guitar very well. However, I can confirm the matching reverse headstock, and it was very likely an NJ series. I will lay my hands on another one someday, somehow.

My guys adjust the truss rod, action, intonation, condition the fretboard, and level the frets. They've taken very good care of me for a lot of years, so I don't mind paying a little extra for service and expertise, but still, if I can do (almost) all of that at home, so much the better.

The wrapover bridge on them sits a bit high, too high even to get over it with a neck shim, the one on the Warlock I had did anyway. I swapped it for a Wilkinson PRS type and it improved playability no end.

Gibson forum guys LOVE the PRS adjustable-saddle wraps on Juniors/Specials and pre-'56 style Goldtops, it's supposed to be like the ultimate trip in wraparounds. I reckon because the saddles are so low-profile and wide and make so much contact with the rest.

Its probably my favourite bridge. I'd fit one on an Offset but it would look stupid with the mass of body doing nothing behind it.
