But for $699 you could get 2 Squiers and $100 back

How much Marr put in to his signature makes me a little jaded when I see sigs that really are not super unique. Bullet truss rod, two humbuckers, white body with white pearl. Blacktop looking amp knobs. Price is good, but just not very impressive to me. Doesn't look like a sig to me.

IMHO sigs should have a custom color that is unique or a custom finish (like the paisley bursts or something), possibly a modified body or neck feature, etc. I understand some people like guitars that are essentially stock. If that is the case, a signature might not really be needed?

The Nate Mendal P.Bass is much cooler, much underrated:

http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/10/03 ... re-p-bass/

He used it throughout his career, and always stood as a solid member of the band... the glue if you will. Badass Bridge and a genius FF neck plate !!!!

Never liked Chris Shiflett's involvement in the band, he was a poor substitute to Pat Smear, and when he rejoined ... there was lift in the bands general spark.

More interested in the Nate Mendal Bass as well. Apparently it was built to his own personal 71 Pbass.

The Shiflett Tele doesn't look very special, but apparently it has some custom pickups and was based off his Partscaster.

At least it's similarly priced to the other Fender Deluxes... a premium price for one with a pearloid pickguard and some PAFs "voiced" after whatever he put in his partscaster would've been a laugh, but then with endorsement deals you so often see that.

I like both of them... I like that the tele is at the same price point as the regular deluxe too, so it's not like you're paying too much of a premium just for the sig name, and it also has different enough features to set it apart I think.

The bass is more exciting to me as well, but it's also not really any different from my MIA p bass that I modded with the SD quarter pound pickup. I really like the badass II bridges a lot, but the high mass bridge on the MIA p bass gets that same feel and sound. Basically there's no reason for me to go out and get one of those, unless for some reason I need a very close backup to my p bass.

I like the P-Bass but there is so little new about the Tele. It also made laugh when he said some kid is going to get this as his first guitar, like everyone starts on a £500 guitar!

Yeah and it is going to give them the best sound. It will take away part of the mystery lol...

What makes the P Bass worthwhile? Does the body have bigger contours or something?
Shabba.
