Stripe advice, please

Post by mixtape »

So for a few minutes last night, I thought I wanted one of these. Then I realized that I'd be just as happy slapping some stripes on my Mockingbird (yes, I want to make a ridiculous guitar look even more ridiculous). Where do you guys recommend getting a decal?

Also, placement and color. Off to one side, or right down the middle? On the one hand, the off-center ones look pretty rad. On the other hand, the previous owner dropped an AC adapter on it, prongs down, just below the bridge, so there's this nasty gouge smack in the middle of the lower bout that I'd like to be able to cover up.

Here are some quick mock-ups (sorry, couldn't resist). So far, I favor the pink or the orange. Maybe the blue. I'm not the fan of the yellow that I thought I'd be. Looks too much like a Hot Wheels car. What do you all think?

I think I like the yellow stripe, right down the pipe best.

Wow, was looking up parts at Guitarfetish and ran across This. They even have a kit in their clearance section for $85. The Moch-o-dot bird could some day become a reality.

Anyone use their kits yet?

I fixed up an old Mockinginbird that had a maple stripe up the middle, so there's sort of a precedent.
