Pickups for Fender Mustang '65 Reissue.

Post by stain »

Hi! I have Fender Mustang '65 Reissue crafted in japan with a native pickups. And I have a tube combo 5/10 w (one channel, 2xEL84 in power amp, 12' Celestion Greenback). I like very much clean sound, especially on neck pickup. I like powerful distortion with Boss DS-2 in second mode on bridge pickup. BUT: I don't like crunch, overdrive. I have tried many pedals: Boss SD-1, Boss OD-3, Boss DS-2, MXR Distortion (modded), two russian pedals, and with every pedal overdrive is "poor". I saw a video with Gibson Les Paul+Boss OD-3 and it sounded very well. But I don't want to sell my guitar, it's very comfortable for, and I love it. I think I need to replace a pickups, something like that: single-coil-size "rails" humbucker in bridge and single-coil pickup in neck. There are many good reviews for Seymour Duncan, but I don't know what to choose (high output? medium output?), and I don't want to loose my good clean sound. I like to play: clean sound (often with modulation effects), blues, oldschool, rock, grunge, punk, noise-rock, indi-pop. I will grateful for any help. Thanks! P.S. Sorry for my English. And, for example, I like this sound very much:

I have that guitar and I love its pickups; I find they are great for most sounds: clean, overdriven and fuzz. Rather than replacing them you could try a cheap booster pedal such as an EHX LPB-1?

yes i think you need a humbucker. Hot rails are perfect on a mustang.
i was like you, i love my mustang but i've always think the sound was too "tiny", so i bought a hot rail hb and i 'm very happy with that one: http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 674wt_1047
it doesn't sound like "power rock" , i still have that particular mustang twang but warmer with a "normal" output gain level.
i like it more than seymour duncan hot rails.
the SD Cool Rails seems good.

Thanks for answers! Cool Rails have a High output. Should I take for neck position a single with High output, too?

I know a guy who put the jb jr. In his bridge and neck position and it sounded fantastic. Plus they looked awesome.

Thanks. After long hesitation I ordered SD little'59 for bridge and SD Classic Stack Plus STK-S4 for neck, from american online shop. It's more expensive to make an order from russian shops.

I installed SD little 59 and SD Classic Stack today. It's great for non-metal distortion and for clean! And no hum. Thank you for your attention.

Wow! Your English is impeccable. Your use of punctuation is much better than most Americans.
