HELP !!!

Post by othomas2 »

Right I need to get this guitar sorted for a friend of mine, and need a little advise.

I need x4 pots for his 'Fenix' Les Paul.

I want to buy from axerus as I like them.... and have decided to go for CTS

Which ones though ?

x4 audio taper ? Medium shaft ?

http://www.axesrus.co.uk/CTS-Pots-s/1878.htm

I've been holding off on this for about a month now and it needs sorting.

thanks
Owen

If it were me I'd go linear taper 500k long shaft pots.

I really don't like CTS's audio taper, I feel that all the adjustment happens between 9-10 and then the rest of the sweep doesn't do very much.

Are the linear pots more gradual to the ear then ?

How do I know whether to go for the long shaft ?

thanks

Here's just one of the pots I need to swap out, as you can see it's shattered completely.

Looks like long shaft right ?

To my ear definitely. Normal length pots don't tend to fit through the top of les pauls, but I'd check what pots are in there already, if they're normal length than just get those, otherwise go for long cts.

Also for some reason the long Alpha pots are very different to their standard ones, they're actually really nice quality so maybe they might be worth considering. You wouldn't have to buy new knobs for one thing.

edit: yeah that looks like a long shaft pot.

Thanks for the offer Gabriel, but don't worry though... I'm about to place an order, for a few thing and my friend will be covering all that.

I appreciate it though !!!

I'll be buying new knobs too, so gonna give the CTS Linear 500K long shaft pots a go, and see how I get on.

thanks

If the guitar has import pots, you will have to drill/ream the top for the CTS shafts.

Here's a pic:

oops finger... and it's a bit more browny than this.

Might be getting some of those pickup adaptors (if he chooses to pay) to fill the gaps around the pickup.

I also just setup and re-stung a CIJ CAR matching headstock Jag this evening as well. Was lovely !!

Nice. Quality at a good price, like the Vester stuff.

Well, it kinda belongs to my brother but he doesn't use it anymore and I'll pay him back eventually.

This isn't string thru either but it's a great guitar. It's my B-B guitar :)
