I want a shred guitar so I can play this

Where on earth did you get that idea?George wrote:Nick, you're a man of sense.
No, others are much better informed. My son had (may still have) a Jackson PS/2 and uses a Schecter Diamond Series C1 Plus for his "mathcore" metallic stuff. He had to replace part of the Floyd Rose licensed trem on the PS/2 a while back. I'm too used to Fender necks to find the PS/2 neck comfortable but he has long fingers.Care to weigh in on this Aria?

Made in Korea - says so on back of headstock, basic rule of thumb, the older it is the more likely it was made in Japan.

Would be awesome for 200 but will end in the region of 200~250 maybe 300 on a good day but its one of the newer re issue 550s so may stay low if the bidders know what they are looking atGeorge wrote:I also love this one...
Probably going to end up too expensive though

It's missing the top off the locking nut. Will that be easy to replace?
its missing the locking pads and that trem is pure shit! Korean badge engineered guitar - Avoid!!
Plus that neck will be very similar to modern fender or Squier profiles.

Thanks for saying that. I was literally just about to drop £80 on it and have a punt.rps-10 wrote:George wrote:Okay, this is the one. I'm going to bid on it so dibs dibs dibs...

This shred guitar lark is hard...
Do you know the origins of this? I can't be sure if this is actually Japanese or not. The MIJ sticker and guy's feedback isn't really filling me with confidence.

Are you bidding on this as it only has 30 odd minutes to go, if you're not I might go for it.George wrote:Okay, this is the one. I'm going to bid on it so dibs dibs dibs...

£50 at most for that "Aria" and I bet if you had bought it you would have thrown it out within a week.
Don't really know much about Jacksons but that one looks nice but it smells of budget/entry model to me. I maybe wrong and it maybe a blinder of an entry model but all the self labeling like on the pickups etc is always a rell tale sign. Fran is probably the one to know about Jacksons.
Don't forget to look for late 80s Kramers, ok the US ones will be out of this price range but the MIJ ones are good and will have nice fender like C profile neck but a lot flatter radius and usually have a real Floyd Rose on them not some licensed copy.

Careful as rps10 has warned against it (see above), but yeah you can go for it if you want.dezb1 wrote:Are you bidding on this as it only has 30 odd minutes to go, if you're not I might go for it.George wrote:Okay, this is the one. I'm going to bid on it so dibs dibs dibs...

That Performer is a bit pricey, I sold a Jackson Fusion Professional for less than that not long ago. The old MIJ Jacksons with 'Professional' on the headstock are the best.
Charvette were like a Squier version of Jackson/Charvel. They were decent enough but the trem was a bit budget.
The BC Rich model you may like is the Gunslinger. The Korean version has an original Floyd Rose, not as nice as the MIJ Ibanez and Jacksons though.
Forgot to mention, the Shredder I own that has seen them all off is the Korean Squier Stagemaster Deluxe, set-neck model. I fitted an EMG 81 and that was that, if you are naturally a Fender guy its a good choice as the neck isn't too thin.

Oh another thing with the RG series to note is, if it has "RG Series" on the headstock along with the Ibanez logo then check dates and serials. The old MIJs never had it, just plain Ibanez logo.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Might wait for a bargain to come around then.
Looking at this. Might drive to collect.

There was some talk on the Jackson and BC Rich forums that the early 90's MIJ Jacksons were on par with the USA models.
Dont know if you remember THIS thread? Might be worth a browse

Thanks Fran, that thread has too many to wade through and some questionable choices. I think the choices we've whittled it down to in this thread pretty nicely answers the £200 area and all who have participated have given real talk.
rps10, yeah, big gutted.
As far as colours go I don't really care because it's for me to spa in my office with and learn to shred. If it's properly trash like shocking pink then I would probably gig it.
