That's just so cool. Picking that guitar up would be like being in a guitar shop in the 70's.

I get the condition is amazing but are people actually buying a '78 as a collectible? That price seems high to me for a late 70s but I feel like I'm a little out of touch with prices as of late because I feel like every time I look at an ebay/craigslist link I'm always surprised how expensive they are.

I don't think I have ever seen a Musicmaster with that red see through finish before. Looks almost too nice.

Or for that matter a Musicmaster as a collectible.
"Collectibility Rating: 1956-1959 DuoSonic: D-, 1959-1965 DuoSonic: D--. The single pickup MusicMaster is considered a "F" for all years. "

But who knows what people will do/want, as time evolves...

And if you were in that guitar shop in the 70s, you would have found everyone there lamenting about how the guitars that were made before the 70s were much better. (Not the Musicmaster necessarily, but in general..)

That's exactly what my '78 Musicmaster bass looks like. It's red wine/wine red I believe.

That color is beautiful, especially with the black pickguard.

It's worth that if you have it to spend and want it badly. It's in great shape. People pay that for modern guitars that aren't collectible.
I would try to haggle down to $1K.

k
same color as my toronado that i'm an idiot for selling. =[
and if this is truly an unplayed guitar, it's potentially worth around a grand, $1200 seems a little steep, but it's worth what it's worth to the buyer.

what's worse than wine red guitars with black pickguards?
Wine red guitars with black pickguards and bird's eye maple necks.
BUt it would be cool to handle a NEW OLD STOCK guitar.

Agreed. I don't get the appeal of bird's eye maple.

I'm not sure I mind that, but I don't like the look when the pickup covers are the same color as the pickguard, the whole area looks like one big blob to me then.

I have somewhat limited experience with 70s MIA Fenders, but the experience I do have with them makes me prefer brand new MIJ Fenders a loooot more.
