i'd been jamming with a couple folks a few times with just my jag straight into my pro jr. sadly, these people are not as in love with IN YOUR FACE TOANZ as you and i are, so just diming (or more accurately, 12ing) the amp was an option. so before the last session, i walked to my neighborhood fucktard center and just asked the Expert behind the counter to give me a run down on the available overdrives. i had done literally no research, and was thinking of just picking up a ts-9 if they had one. . . which they did, but he mentioned the fulltone, so i said "why not? it's only $100." then he rings it up and i go to pay, and he says "that'll be $150." my bad for being at the wrong angle at the counter. the tag that looked like it was below the ocd was actually below some other overdrive. not wanting to be an idiot (and since i had no budget set for this at all), i just shrugged and paid for it.

so far i have played it in two jam sessions -- one with the people in PB w/ st jimmy, and once up in big bear a couple weeks ago. it seems to lack a little on the top end, but that could just be my very minimal setup (ocd, salt booster, strobo stomp, amp), though i think that actually reveals it's true colors. no biggie, i like it find. it can go from grit to gravel to gain city and all the lovely places in between. it does not sound like a cheap, mass produced circuit bender, and controls are super easy to read and understand. i haven't played much with the tone switch up top, but i suspect i will do so more later.

if you're into a strictly Overdrive type sound (think late sixties, early 70's hard rock), this is definitely one of the tones from that era. very natural and handles nicely when you lower the volume on your guitar to shape things even more. slightly on the spendy side, but not really.

The mooer hustle drive is supposed to be a clone of the OCD. I love it. I find that with the HP/LP switch on HP, and playing with the tone knob, the top end is actually incredibly versatile.

Also, I love these pedals infinitely more than the regular TS-9's these days. I feel like every tube screamer clone out there does a better job than the actual tube screamers being released now.

I have an OCD (ver 4) and I love it; it's my main OD pedal. Its range is fantastic. The only other dirt pedal I need on my board is my Muff.

If I was to get another dirt pedal it'd be a second OCD, and have one with the gain low and the other cranked.

The one thing the OCD lacks is an output buffer so it can sound wooly in some setups. If you're wanting topend, use HP mode, and have a play with it at different places in your chain if you're still finding it bassy.

Very cool pedals though.

I've build one for a friend, and loved it so much I actually build one for myself. It ended my searching for a distortion pedal that sounds good on the orange dual terror.

I really like mine too. The lack of too much top end is probably a good thing, since its touch-sensitivity makes it my go-to for the semi-clean/edge of breakup sound...which usually results in splatty crackle with most dirt boxes. In the OCD's case, it seems to be in its comfort zone with providing a bit of grit and texture. There's loads of clean boost on tap as well, so that gets a bonus point from me.

Overall I'd say it does a simple, subtle job and does it very well. I'm not sure how the tone changes when you use an 18V supply though - I've been told it opens up the sound a bit and adds more headroom. Has anyone tried that?

Nope, it's designed for 9/18V

It's fine to use it.

I've got the original 9 to 18v Diago adaptor....but they look a bit nicer now.

After a year I've just gone back to using the 9v on my OCD. Not a huge difference unless you really 'want' to hear it.

Seems a bit tighter and more compressed on 18, and a bit livelier on 9.

But it probably acts a bit different between versions.... mines the V3 I think.

In Summary: I wouldn't really bother.

.... as far as I know the V4 is brighter than the others insuring yours is the one with the studs on the side as pictured ?

I have the V4 and I love it. My dist + and 808 now collect dust on a shelf.
I find the OCD has a really good range from slightly gritty to all out distorted. I've yet to try it with 18v, but I love it the way it is.
Good score Dots.
