Quality EQ pedal? Experiences?

Post by Dave »

i want to get a decent EQ pedal to drop inmy effects loop. I want a decent one and preferably 10 band. This is because I figure it'll be useful in various contexts forever so I don't mind going a little further to get a good one.

The standard seems to be MXR 10-bands although I do hear some grumbles about noise...and a mod to sort that out. Any better/cheaper pedals out there? First hand experience?

Here's what I'm looking to do (as just an ongoing use)

I once had the MXR KFK 10 Band Eq. I never noticed any issue with noise though. Downsides were that it was big, heavy, I think it ran off 18v, it's pricey and i'm not sure the extra bands are worth having. Have you looked at the Boss 7 band and the mods available?

I have an ancient 7 or 6 band Ibanez EQ pedal, that's noisy as hell too.

Looks like you can pick up the KK 108 for around 80 quid new or second hand (with some shopping around)...the dual amp outs would certainly be a bonus. I've done a quick scan of the Boss mods - they cool enough though it does bump up the price I guess.... but CORK SNIFFER ALERT I just don't like the look or feel of Boss pedals. Behringer i forgive because they cost pittance ;) i know, I'm not proud of this one aspect of my gear love, it is a completely stupid position!

I've got a lead on the Biyang eq7 for reaaallly cheap... I can only find one review and some youtube comments but they are all positive. Might give that shot if i can snag it at hte price I've seen.

I wasn't overly impressed with EQ's. The best ones I have had have been DOD's. I have one I'm keeping, and another I could trade you? I think it's the same one as Morello uses, if that floats your boat.

Loathe as ever to recommend Dano pedals, but the Fish and Chips Equaliser is one of the ones that people go weak at the knees over (one of the big three with the French Toast and the Tuna Melt). Buy second hand, kiss a fella etc.

I used to feel the same way about Boss but i've recently totally swung the other way and now my board is mostly discontinued and current Boss pedals.
