Noisy Bassman

Post by johnnyseven »

I've just recently noticed that my Bassman is making a humming noise when I play my guitar through it, even at low volume. Any ideas what could be causing it?

What kind of hum? I've never played a valve amp that didn't hum, but if you've only just noticed it I'm guessing it's something wrong.

If it has never had a cap job, do it now.

It's basically like the normal hum you get from an amp but louder. I'm not not running hotter pickups through it and it does it with no distortion or boost pedals engaged.

What is a cap job?

Having the electrolytic capacitors (decoupling/smoothing and bypass) replaced.
