I would have agreed but the guy in Oasist has an old Tokai Les Paul that sounds great. Maybe that was the one area the Japanese did show a little inconsistency. Considering of MIJ/CIJ Fenders it is more than likely.

Just spent a couple of hours tinkering with it. It was the fella's main gigging guitar for a few years, so it had a bit of a DNAcaster thing going on. Had to clean the fretboard with a toothbrush, it was grim. Put plenty of lemon oil on there too, cleaned up the rest of it and restrung with 11s. Also discovered that someone had fitted one of these m@j@ caps, which is obviously where the woman tone was coming from.

Am unbelievably chuffed with it.

Isn't that cap the mod to prevent loss of treble clarity when you turn the volume down? Goes between vol and tone pot. If so it was common on Les Pauls at one point, but since Slash did it he invented it

thought i'd have a quick peek at this old thread in pending collection of this beast tonight.

one of my first guitars was an epiphone SG Jr in cherry red. that was my main guitar all through uni, until in fit of madness i traded it for a black squire strat.

that started me on the route to getting my faithful sonic blue strat, but always regretted losing the Jr. nearest i got to replacing it was the gibson melody maker ( now owned by nickd and fran),but it felt wrong as it wasn't sg shaped.

can't wait to unleash this at tuesdays band practice. just thinking about it, most of my rig is shortscale-owned.

Baja Tele: Mike (will never be able to thank you enough for selling this to me)
Torres Cab: James (true gent and even shared the asking price of the cab mmmmm jamesons!)
Salt boost: Again Mike (my desert island pedal)
Impending Sg: Benecol

and seeing as i found this, i'll post it. me at 16 with my SG, fuck i was thin!

excalibur in it's new home. plugged it in just now. how i've coped missing p90s i'll never know. the neck is fantastic, wide but not uncomfortable. it's quite speedy too, one of the few guitars i've played where the phrase plays like butter means it.
dynamically, the amount of tones you can get from just the volume and tone is great. you still retain a fair bit of volume when you turn down to clean it up.

and here it is with the other mainstays

think i'll be quite content to have these three and nothing else.

so i took the junior to band practice on tuesday, as well as the strat just in case.

plugged into the fat channel of the DT, tend to favour that and just use it as a signal channel amp just on the cusp of crunch. had to do a little bit of tweaking, mainly a tad less gain and just up a notch on the tone. it sounded fucking glorious, you could pick out every string when you strike a chord.

it's a right little riff machine, the stones stuff we've been learning really rang out. very very flexible on the controls, did use a bit of doog-woman-tone for the solo on are you gonna go my way!

just stuck to my current little board of the salt booster and belcat delay. think i might get a better/more analogue sounding delay, as quite like the verge of mushy sound it's got going. salt boost makes it proper stand out for lead work.

the neck is well speedy and the wider profile helps keep my thumb straight (main cause of pain in the past). might have to step down a gauge on my strings, found 11's a little too tight compared to the strat (which stayed in it's case the whole night)

band mates loved it, though they've christened the latte-caster as they think it's the colour of a skinny latte!
