Whoopsy-doodle nova, I didn't watch the video yet but he mentioned the Peach clone. I'd still recommend that first one for this type of stuff, will check your vid out too.

Lori from Acid King uses a Boss FZ3 or something, I think.

My Big Muff Tone Wicker does a good job. Even with the tone down, with the Wicker switched in it sounds good.

I think a huge amount of the sound comes from the guitar tuning, though.

I finally figured it out. The ProCo You Dirty RAT would be perfect for stoner rock, check it out.

Doesn't the bloke from Electric Wizard use a Boss FZ2 Hyper Fuzz? This has 2 great fuzz modes plus a awesome boost, they do tend to go for high prices on ebay though - I have one and love it for nasty, noisy fuzz sounds, I use mode 1.

Also how about the Boss Bass Overdrive? King Buzzo from The Melvins uses one. I remember running mine though my Crate Powerblock and a 4 x 12 and it had an awesome amount of bottom end. Plus with the blend control right down I assume you could use it as a versatile boost with the treble and bass controls.

Thanks for all the suggestions, funnily enough.... I had the Dano CC Fuzz in my head at the time of posting.

I remember liking that when I tried it last time... think I'll give that a go.

Would it be worth trying to track down the V1 over the V2 ?

I don't think so, really. I feel that a large amount of the want for the version 1 is the fact that it was a cheap clone of a 400 dollar pedal. The second version is much more versatile, it can be a clean or dirty boost when adjusting input gain, has treble and bass tone controls, and three switches inside for different clipping options.
Switch 1 is a Big Muff sound, fairly bassy, epspecially with the bass up at 3:00;
switch 2 is louder, less clipping than switch one, more open sounding, and sounds close to all of the switches turned off, without the annoying fizz;
and switch 3 is just like switch one, but with more high end, more clipping, and more sustain.

Also, when the bass is boosted, it creates more fuzz. At 5:00 bass, it will be intense and prone to feedbacking.

So yeah, version 2 is the bees knees.

THAT'S IT I got mixed up, Lori does use a Little Big Muff, a vintage one I believe. Jus Osborne uses the Boss fuzz. Does anyone know what Buckingham uses?

Really hoping both of them tour soon, actually.

Eh, I've tried a Big Muff new, didnt like it very much, and apparently neither do many other people. The Bass Big Muff is pretty awesome though, it's supposed to be the same as the Green Russian Big Muff with the bass boost and dry modes put in. That one is also a good stoner rock pedal for down tuned guitars. But honestly, why bother spending more on a Big Muff when the Danelectro is just the same, but cheaper, and more versatile and usable?

Big Muffs are pretty tricky to pull off live with a band unless you dial your amp mids as high as possible and never turn it off.

Or buy an EQ pedal and place it right after the Big Muff. Or, as per a mod I saw on a page full of Big Muff mods, put a miss control, or an entire 3-band EQ. But that's a bit too much trouble, just to make your Big Muff heard.

Btw uploading a video of the Danelectro fuzz with the other two switches I didn't use in the first video. As an added bonus, there is drop-C and ub3r c00l st0|\|3r riffz. Will post when it's done.

I love the You Dirty Rat, it's a massively underrated fuzzy distortion. The Way Huge Swollen Pickle MKII is really good for stoner rock as it's ridiculously bassy. Also, a Fuzz Face or a Boss FZ-3 will definitely nail Fu Manchu tones.

I went to see my old band mates Master Charger tonight. I wish I could have Skyped the gig to this thread. The gain source is only a fraction of the sound.

So I bought a Cool Cat v2 fuzz and tried it on the evening before leaving London... I'm not sure it's right, and perhaps faulty ?

Doesn't appear to have much gain on tap... I cranked the trimpot and flicked some switches but that brought it to average gain level.

Pretty peeved. I bought it on a whim after a crap week... to 'cheer myself up'
