Decent gig bag recommendation

OK, was walking home tonight with my Mex Telly on my back when there was ping, closely followed by a sickening smack as my guitar hit the pavement.

Luckily no damage but both metal clips holding the straps to the case had snapped.

Anyone able to recommend a decent gig bag for arround the Â£30 mark? Looked into the Fender Pro but quite a few horror stories about it not being water proof and the colour from the bag staining instruments when they get wet. Let's face it I live in England so something that can cope with a shower would probably be wise. Anybody had a Roksak? Specs look good for the price.

I've been using a Rocksack for a few years, they do the job but I'm not overly confident carrying my guitar around in it. If you can stretch to Â£50 then a Protection Racket case is a much better option.

If you can push it to just over Â£60 the Protec Contego is absolutely awesome (this is what I use now).

I think with gigbags you get what you pay for, but the Protection Racket and Protec are both bargains for their level of quality.

This is relevant to my interest too. I need a new gig bag and was going to my girlfriend to buy me one of these for Christmas:

It looks sturdy and has plenty of pockets.

I would avoid Fender gig bags, the ones i've had in the past have always had their straps break. I think I have a fender Deluxe Gig Bag at the moment and the zip on the pocket has broken. The double gig bags i've had don't sem to have straps that can actually handle the weight of 2 guitars, which seems a bit daft to me.

For the price of that Ritter definitely go for the Protection Racket case. Ritter cases are alright, but for how much they cost there are many better options at the same price point.

The Protection Racket case looks a bit chunky, I have to squeeze my guitar and pedalboard on the train with me to work so was looking for something less cumbersome. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Fair enough, I prefer to have a sturdier case. Do you keep your guitar in the overhead on the train? I use a Mono case that only fits on some trains overheads which is a real pain.

I just tend to hold it, I do sometimes put my pedalboard in the overhead luggage hold though. My train ride isn't too long but it's difficult to manouevre with a chunkier bag, especially if the train is crowded.

Gabriel, which Roksak do you have? Is it the 10, 20 or 30? I like the fact that they are Waterproof, and inexpensive. It's for lugging my Mexican Telly about, so nothing too delicate or expensive to worry about. My nicer guitars never leave the house without their hard cases. Just after something that will keep the rain out, has a bit of padding and the straps aren't going to drop off at any second!

Ah that makes sense, I know exactly what you mean about the chunkier bag as it can be a bit of a pain. I have to spend 40 minutes to an hour on the train so I need to have a case that will cope with having luggage thrown at it by people who don't understand what a guitar really is.

Actually sorry I have a rockbag - names are pretty similar so it's easy to get confused. I have the Rockbag deluxe, which is about Â£30-40 depending where you buy it. I used to have a Roksak but the straps ripped off after a couple of months, it was about the same price but the Rockbag has lasted longer - also has padding for your back which is nice.

Well, I have plumped for a Â£30 CNB gig bag. Will turn up Thursday so will report on quality when it arrives. Would have been nice to have had a bit more money to spend, but it's Christmas, and I need to get a replacement quickly. We will see.

OK, well the CNB is a decent bag for the money. Padding is good, extra padding at the bottom of the guitar that velcro's it in place in a big padded hug! Velcro strap to hold the neck in place. Lots of very good pockets, big secure zips. I like it a lot. The shoulder straps are comfy and well stitched in place. All together I would highly recommend this bag for instruments of Â£400 and under. I am still of the opinion if you have a guitar worth more then a hard case is the only way to go. My Wolfgang certainly will always live in its hard case.
