Oi! Aen! FUZZ QUESTIONS

Post by mastermorya »

I made this thread to create "safe place" for you speak candidly about teh pedalz.

I want a fuzz pedal. I think. What I already have in terms of dirt: TGD (mostly for when I get down on my hands and knees to go fuck all at a show), WHRI Rat (lurvz it), Fender Blender (some sounds I really need and can't get anywhere else are in this, but it is infuriating, need to get the volume drop fixed), HM-2 (lurvz it made in taiwan but fuck you RAPE OF NANKING HEARD OF IT j/k), anonymous Red Llama clone, Fuck (soon to be replaced by a mini to save space probably). I want heavy stoner fuzz like Bardo Pond or Sleep or whatever. My amp is usually a DRRI or a Traynor YSR-1 for bigger noise times. I think some of these pedals get me close. Thinkin' bout:

Pharaoh
Eau Clair Thunderr/Baby Thunder
Surrender Dorothy
Megaltih?
Mastotron?

Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Yeah, except that Aen technically isn't supposed to talk about his own pedals outside of the whorehouse. Or something. Thus this thread. So that he can.

MWUHAHAHAHA!

Ok, well, here's why I always use an Eau Claire Thunder on guitar. It pushes the fuck out of your lows, and highs, without scooping your mids. The trim knob prevents "pedal fart" by reducing your guitar volume before it hits distortion. I smushed a lot of fun features in there, the clipping diode (timewarp) can change your tone pretty drastically. Feedback loop in the ECT, for noise fun, too. It's getting used by people in all sorts of bands, so it's pretty adaptable. It does pretty well with any guitar or bass with passive pickups, haven't had a chance to try active pickups. I think it sounds best with less hot pickups (Jaguar, tele singles, etc)

Surrender Dorothy, I think you've got that base covered with the TGD, unless you want something more bass specific. I've been using Dorothy on bass lately, seems to stay "tight" through the 8X10, whereas the ECT is a lot woolier and unruly. Dorothy makes everything sound like Dorothy.

Can't speak to the others, sadly, but that's because I built the ECT to be perfect for me.

The top row here: http://theronaldraygun.bandcamp.com/ has mostly ECT on the bass and guitars. The bass on the 2012 demos is Surrender Dorothy, with the lines doubled on baritone>ECT.

My other suggestion would be the Earthquaker Tone Reaper. It's kind of snotty, brash, not as bassy as I set my ECT, and it's tiny. I've been really liking it in a C tuning with my Tele Deluxe.

HOpe that helps...
