I bought myself a Canon T1i when we moved into our new house because we were expecting our second kid and I wanted to take really good photos of our sons, and I've always been into cameras. Here's some of the stuff I've done over the last couple of years...

Great shots. I didn't know you were into photography. Cute kiddos too. Someday they will be glad you took those.

It's a newer pursuit of mine, and I wish I had more time and wayyyyy more money to do it.

Yeah there are some great shots there

Very nice.
I have a flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/danheron/ But haven't been out taking photos for quite a while. Too much work at the moment. Hopefully I will update it over Christmas a bit.

Thanks Dan! I hope once we get our financial ship righted I can get a decent flash and maybe a new lens. I have a fixed 50mm that i like to use, but I had to go cheap and it has no image stabilizer...which means one or two out of every five shots is ruined because my hand apparently isn't all that steady. I added you as a friend on flickr. I'm in the same boat as you; just not a lot of time to go out and shoot right now. Although, I also have a backlog of about 1000 images I should go through too. So little time.

For awhile I was playing around with HDR quite a bit. As it turns out, Disneyland is pretty great for HDR shots because they paint and decorate everything in really vibrant colors that already have great contrast with each other. I love HDR for things like this, where you're already capturing not-quite reality. Have any of you guys worked in HDR before?

My camera (fuji x100) has a fixed 35mm lens. I've grown to love just using 1 lens, its a nice challenge (although I sometimes wish it was 50mm rather than 35).

Yeah, that one of my boys is really special to Carolyn and I. We're seriously considering turning it into an oil painting. I've used this website a couple of times to make some pretty cool prints of photos I've taken, and all things considered, you pay not that much for a really cool re-interpretation of your photos. photofiddle dot com I think is the name of the site.

Oooh! I'd love to shoot on a fixed 35. What I love about using fixed lenses is that it forces you to move the camera, and I don't know about you, but super-zoomy shots always feel a little papparazzi to me. Are Fuju lenses proprietary, or do they use Nikon or Canon threading?

Well the x100 doesn't have interchangeable lenses. But the X-Pro1 and EX-1 do and they use fujis own lens mount.

I wonder if they make mount adapters for those lenses. I'm an idiot because when I first bought my camera I bought this really old Canon 50mm SLR lens that I had to use a ring adapter on, but that got amazing shots. Money got tight, and I needed the seventy bucks so I sold it. I miss that lens. It just felt like I got more "vintage"y pictures out of it.

eBay is the place for SLR stuff. I like to use Olympus SLRs, the OM-1 in perticular. The most common lens they come with, at least on the ones I've bought, has been a 50mm f1.8. Really nice lens. But they also do an f1.4 and a monstrous f1.2. I would kill for the 50mm 1.2, it's pricey as hell.

I've definitely used eBay to pick up camera gear, and I haven't been disappointed once. But it was quite a shock realizing that good lenses cost more than the body itself. LOL
