This belonged to my late father in law. Picked it up yesterday after years of refusing it from my mother in law. I just woke up one day last month and felt it was time.

I believe it's a '78. That's what the serial number refers to anyway.

Had to set it up a bit, but all I did was lower the action a bit. The electrics will need a bit of TLC. The switch is a bit hit and miss, and the neck pick up seems very wooly and quiet. But it feels great. Bit of a boat anchor, but I guess it's a 70s fender. Action feels really nice and loose.

Nice... your father in-law would be glad It's getting played, I had my father in-law's 70s Strat for a bit while my brother in-law was too young to realise how good it was. He has it now and loves it...

That could be a 1977. "S7" starting the serial number can be 1977 or 1978. You would have to check the butt end of the neck to be sure.

Looks great, well done! Black guard on Sunburst always makes me think of the 70's..

re. the switch - get some contact cleaner in there and it'll be fine.

That's a beautiful thing, I'm glad you decided to take it and play it - it's for the best I'm sure.

I played my friend's 77/78 Stratocaster and made a demo of it back when I was fat. It was a lovely old 70s Fender.

double check the butt to see what the date is. there was an absurd amount of "78" decal/serial numbers. i can't be for sure of the year, but i think it was an 81 stamped strat neck, with a 78 decal that was floating around indiana a few years ago. somewhere on some computer i took pictures of it, just to show off.

Thanks guys. Have sent the wee wife off to Maplins to purchase agreed product. Next up, train her to de string, clean, restring and tune up.

Yes it is. Also inherited from my father in law, but i've had it about 5 years. It's an unreal sounding amp. I consider myself to be very lucky.
