Jazzmaster ish poll

Post by metalhead384 »

I now have some extra money and wanna start a new project/ get a new guitar. I've decided that the Fender jazzmaster interests me alot, but i cant really find a good priced used on on craigslist. HOWEVER I played the vintage modified one today, and I like it, and i can afford to buy it brand new, seeing as how its only $300, and I wanna stay on a budget, the only con of the guitar is I dont like the bridge very much and would want to change it as Im a very heavy handed player. Thats my first option, and I would want to try it out first as some of them come with fret buzz and a shitty set up

I could also buy a epiphone SG special and do what robroe did a while ago and make an epiphone sg melody maker thing, and put in a purple lace sensor and hot rail, also add in a kill switch and phase switch, and paint it white and black like johnny ramone's guitar. This would cost in total with all the parts and eveything probably about $350-$400, and about 1 and a half to 2 weeks of my time. Thats my second option

My third option is wait until I find a MIM or MIJ jazzmaster I like on craigslist/ ebay/ wherever for a good price that I like. This could take along time, and when I am in the market for a new guitar I tend to want to get it ASAP. This will hopefully cost $400- $600.

My question is which option should I take and go for, and what are your expierences with various jazzmasters/ recomendations for a guitar I could buy. I play Ska-Punk and alternative rock in my free time, such as Dinosaur Jr. and Presidents of the USA. Anything can help

Thanks

Yup, all the fun of the fair, without the trampled into the ground candy floss and hot dogs. Best guitar i've bought for ages/ever.

This ^^^ I reckon it's the best bang for your buck all this year. It's great !! Somehow feels like something much more expensive ....

Quite a few pickup builders are making humbucker pickups underneath Jazzmaster covers.... but I certainly wouldn't discount these. They're pretty high output and one of the best things about the guitar.

If I was in your situation I'd definitely go the JMJM, they're lovely guitars.

MIJ/CIJ for best vintage-style bang-for-buck. Pickups aren't the best but replacments are dime a dozen these days.

JMJM if you want a more modern player with hawt rawk sound. The TOM and pickups and neck kinda take away a lot of "jazzmaster" vibe IMO.

I was actually on craigslist today and found a few guitars I might end up buying,
First of all this Mustang, Kurtd out
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/msg/3464595582.html

Second is a J Mascis Jazzmaster
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/msg/3508764792.html

Third is a Peavey T 60
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/msg/3457331266.html

Fourth is a Univox Hi Flier
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/msg/3484525748.html

Finally is a Fender Toronado Deluxe
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/msg/3442039386.html

I made a few offers and I'll see where all those go, I would like to either the mascis jazzmaster or the mustang the most though.
