Went guitar hunting yesterday and on the eighth pawn shop I came across this Duo Sonic hanging amongst standard pawn shop fare. Plugged it in and everything worked. The ham-fisted prior owner took the opportunity to mangle the head by removing the Squier logo and the serial on the back of the head. He/she really put some muscle into the back of the head with a circular sander and took quite a bit of material out of the back.
So the head mauling is unfortunate and it also has a sizable ding with wood showing, but on the plus side, the guitar looks and plays really nicely. It's also missing it's tone knob. I really love the neck- it is a really nice piece of wood with gorgeous pattern. The back of the body has zero buckle rash, and judging from the pick guard, I'd say it's rarely if ever been played. I've played quite a bit of Fenders and Squiers, and this is possible the nicest neck I've seen.
I pointed out the serial number issue to the shop manager and he gave me a deep discount. By Florida law, they should not have even taken the guitar in without one. I'm glad they did though.
I've read that to get these to play really well that everything from the pickups to the bridge to the electrics need to be switched out on these- is that a consensus? I'm going to leave it alone and play the hell out of it for now. Really liking the find.
You need to take revenge and get a waterdecal and restore the noble Squier logo on it. It looks really good with a black pickguard, even if the ensemble is still on the anaemic side of the colour spectrum. Thumbs up, anyway!

Brauskoh on ebay... might just be easier to get a completely new 'squier + duo sonic' decal, and just sand and refinish the entire headstock, than to just match the existing finish to re-add 'squier'.
Great guitar BTW... I regret ever getting rid of mine.

I've been trying to find out if the black pick guard was ever an option out of curiosity. Thanks.
