Love the fact that they brought the Supersonic back. In fact, I love the fact they brought back the 51 as well. I know people bitch and whine, but... shut the fuck up?
Anyway, I went for the Bass VI. I have a Gretsch Baritone, now strung up as a Bass VI. It's good, but those .85 dano string sets aren't heavy enough, it's all flappy. This new release means that Fender will be reissuing Bass VI strings so I can get that .95 string on there and rock out. It's a great guitar/bass and perfect for me; I love playing bass but short of a proper Rickenbacker bass I'm not totally mad on playing a proper one. I'm a guitarist, so being able to play bass on something that looks and feels like a guitar is more my thing.
Get one. You'll love it just for the novelty. People (boring people) will ask when and how you'd use it, but it's actually quite versatile; I'd love to see someone try it in a duo context.

Yup, I play my VIs almost exclusively. Great basses, and fun baritones... the only thing that will stop you is being boring.ekwatts wrote:You'll love it just for the novelty. This is a tough call. I like all the flake finishes on the Supersonic, though the orange flake is the best. I really want to build a Super-sonic with a Bronco Trem. My only reservation about the SS is I am not a Humbucker guy except for WRHB or the ones in the Pawnshop Mustang.
The Bass VI is really cool, though I am not enamored with the Jazzmaster Bridge pup and the 5 way switch. I would play it before making a judgement. Either way, I would be buying a new scratchplate and the 4 Jaguar switch plate to return the full function and look of the original design. If the JM pup sucks, then you could also drop in a new AVRI Jaguar pup in the bridge as well.
I don't think you can go wrong with either guitar. Just depends on what you need.

That's actually a humbucker, not a jazzmaster pickup.taylornutt wrote:The Bass VI is really cool, though I am not enamored with the Jazzmaster Bridge pup and the 5 way switch. If I bought the bass VI I would have to buy a control plate, new guard, 4 way plate, 4 switches, and a avri jaguar pup. I'm not digging the new changes as much as I do the stock look. So I'm thinking it may be best to just get the supersonic and cheaper.
Congratulations! Your Punkacc9 evolved into Awstin.
You might keep in mind that it's not just the bridge pickup that's different (assuming that's what you'd be swapping out for the AVRI Jag pup), the middle and neck are also changed for hot, high output singles; they're not standard Jaguar/VI pickups neither.Punkacc9 wrote:If I bought the bass VI I would have to buy a control plate, new guard, 4 way plate, 4 switches, and a avri jaguar pup. I made the same mistake!taylornutt wrote:Thanks. I had not seen the full specs just going on appearance.

There are no other pawnshop series in squier form, I'd doubt this severely.Punkacc9 wrote:I really have a strong feeling squier is gonna reissue the supersonic and show it at Namm.

But they've made it look like a Jazzmaster pickup, which is the real problem. They barely look ok on Jazzmasters.Ankhanu wrote:That's actually a humbucker, not a jazzmaster pickup.taylornutt wrote:The Bass VI is really cool, though I am not enamored with the Jazzmaster Bridge pup and the 5 way switch.
