Just got paid my first proper whack of salary, so I decided to splurge on a Groove Box to make some tunes. I've been mildly drifting away from pure guitar music with real drums and stuff and more into electronic stuff with guitar samples in. So this seemed logical. Pretty fully featured, comes with a whole library of sounds as well (I've been sampling stuff since I've been in Uni, so I have a fair bank of my own). I am certainly looking forward to the Rhodes sounds that they have in with it, apparently one of the nicer ones on the market at the moment. Maybe my next purchase will be a Rhodes or suitcase keyboard of some description.

I'm guessing that I'll use as a plug into Ableton Live 8 and use the plugin and not the Maschine DAW, because I want to use MaxMSP/Jitter and the Ableton live suite. Even though the DAW itself looks pretty fully featured and stuff.
Basically, I got it for 329, It was cheaper than buying a APC40 and an MPD32 and does just as much, if not more in certain circumstances - plus it will fit nicely into a set up when I finally get my timecoded vinyls all sorted in the next few months. I'll review fully tomorrow, when it arrives at work.
Do you guys use any thing like this? I feel that theres probably a bit of computer music following on this forum somewhere, right?

I fancied the maschine but when I saw the announcement of the Ableton Push i thought i might wait for that first when it comes out later this year. I've loved using ableton since I bought it last year and find its great for coming up with ideas I hadn't of otherwise.

I wish I could get my head around Ableton Live, I have a total mental block with it and hence still on ACID.
I'm sure if I could figure it out it would make life a lot easier for what I intend to do someday.

I saw that too, and it certainly looks amazing. I love the ribbon controller in it and its take on things. I also like that its a native Ableton live controller that doesn't require routing to get going, because I agree, Ableton is very creative once you get in to it. I hear the pads are super nice - and the general control like auto timings and half velocity and stuff sound cracking. So I'm chuffed that I've finally got some new musical equipment for the first time in nearly 2 years.lorez wrote:I fancied the maschine but when I saw the announcement of the Ableton Push i thought i might wait for that first when it comes out later this year. Dude, check out some of the dubspot tutorials - thats how I learned the basics. Once you know those and you establish your own workflow then its plain sailing and really easy to get from a small phrase to symphony. Also sampling is super sick, the time stretching in Live 8 is incredible, never seen anything quite like it before. But yeah, I feel that the problem is, is that there are a variety of ways to approach it as a DAW and that can get really daunting.rps-10 wrote:I wish I could get my head around Ableton Live, I have a total mental block with it and hence still on ACID.

I started making music only with software, so I've always been into this kind of stuff. But I am not up to speed at all. The Maschine always looked awesome, though, I hope it's great for you!
If I were to get more hardware controllers, I might get the Novation Luanchpad for Live.
But as it stands Im building some of my own controllers.... Its whacky.

tbh, you'd be better off buying a nord electro. the rhodes sound is spot on, plus all the other stuff it can do.Rhysyrhys wrote:Maybe my next purchase will be a Rhodes or suitcase keyboard of some description.
edit: holy shit. i hadn't seen the new model, it sounds amazing. as a rhodes owner i 100% wouldn't be able to tell the difference based on sound. the vox continental model is perfect too.
