Fuck's sake, if they made a MIM black-tort Bass VI with the chrome plate and 3 identical pickups, I'd be saving the money up this very second.

Do not want to have to mod something from day 1 to recover it from the fuglyness.

but, sound wise, from the various demos I've heard so far, the PSVI is a decent sounding bass. Sounds better than I thought it would, at least.

I've never tried using the coupon code, I always call in orders of that size. Because I also tell them to ship fedex and not UPS cuz UPS bashes the living fuck out of everything - I had to return my first duo-sonic because the 3-way switch was broken, there was a hole bashed in the box by ups, I had to return the mustang special because its 3-way switch was crackling, I had to return my fender 12-string because the headstock was dented from pisspoor packaging, I almost returned Teh Kurdtz because the packaging was so skimpy that it had barely visible dings on the back side, but instead I bitched about it and they gave me an extra $80 off the already 15% discount

Well done there brother on the Kurdtz. I tried the coupon code for 10% off and it wouldn't work, but then a chat box popped up and the agent gave me a different code to use and it deducted 10%. Sorry to hear about your woes with UPS. I've had mixed experiences with both carriers. Sucks hard to be mad with anticipation, then have your expectations dashed because some douche bag was careless.

That's in the 'too good to be true' camp for me.

The ad starts 'At Cream City Music...' which is a store in Wisconson, USA. Search for the opening paragraph and you'll see several that store has listed including [url=http://www.creamcitymusic.com/p-73898- ... e-nos.aspx]Chartreuse sparkle[/url[ (never seen anything other than the Dick Dale strat in that before)

The ebay listings that show up also had them asking $3,700 for a NOS custom shop VI. A more realistic UK price would be, at a guess, something like Â£1,500-1,800. The photo style matches cream city music and I bet if you search enough you'll find the white one.

Yeah, that's why I gave up on them a long time ago. They manage to fuck up anything even if they have the exact specs in their hands. I'm convinced that all of their brilliant designs are purely accidental, or done by Fender Japan.

I honestly believe Fender don't get their market for offsets and shortscales (the 'indie arty' lot if you want to generalise terribly). It's the equivelent of your tragically unhip uncle thinking he being on your your level by sagging his brown courdorys and throwing up some gang signs.

I don't see the problem. It doesn't even look that bad. It also doesn't look exactly like an original Bass VI. So? They could have made it part of the new American Vintage Dollar range and made it look EXACT, and tripled the price. Or they could have put it in the Blacktop range and done two colours (black and grey (then again, a blacktop iteration could have been great with witchhat knobs and all (but it would have been competing somewhat with the Blacktop Tele so it wouldn't have happened))). But instead they stuck it in the Pawn Shop range. And, instead of carving the butt off it, sticking an f-hole in it or drawing a cock on it, they changed the pickguard to accomodate a market-friendly five-way switch and a humbucker from elsewhere in the range, disguised as a Jazzmaster pickup.

I'd buy it. It's a Bass VI. The most important bits are the strings, scale and trem. It's still a Bass VI. For less than a grand. LESS THAN A GRAND.

It doesn't even have a strat jack.

You people just like complaining.
