I've tarted up my Squier Super-Sonic

Post by Noisy Cat »

All this new SS talk made me want to pimp my Squier.

Before:

Now:

- Replaced blue pearl guard with a three-ply CREAM one
- Replaced Dragonfire Screamers with Seymour Duncan JB & Jazz - both split to push/pull pots
- Replaced Jag knobs with witch hats

It now looks (IMO) and sounds much better - very pleased!

Nice job. The witch-hats were definitely the right choice, they go perfectly with the exposed pickups.

At this stage I must point out that the blue pickguard was already on it when I bought from a store in Toronto last year.

I tried to warm to it - I really did - to the point of attempting to compliment it with the blue and black humbuckers I originally fitted, as seen in the top photo.

But, eventually, I simply gave up.

I was just thinking 'I don't get super-sonics.' And now I get them a bit more. Looks classy.

I can't believe they even make black/blue zebra humbuckers.

Major upgrade though, nice! Not sure if I like the beige-on-black, but it sure beats the hell out of blue moto.

Five ply black guard, white witch hats + switch tip and white open faced humbuckers would also be super duper rad.

But yeah, great job un-honking that poor thing.

Where did you order the cream pickguard from? I like that the cream is sort of subdued, if that makes sense. I wanna do cream on one of my projects, but I don't want too rich of a cream color. This would be perfect.

Mine is genuinely cream, as opposed to other off-white colours such as mint or parchment; I'd say it's a bit darker than aged white. It's a similar colour to a Les Paul guard - exactly what I wanted. The first picture best represents it.

From this eBay guy based in the US. He'll quickly cut one in any colour if you ask him. Being in the UK, I got hit with the idiot tax, of course.

Looks excellent! (Much better IMHO.) How do you like the Jazz neck? It is a potential neck pickup I might get for my HH Jaguar project to go with my JB bridge.

The cream guard works really well. It gives the guitar a vintage look. Plus it kinda softens or mediates the contrast of the black body against the brown fretboard and amber headstock. Pulls it all together.

You have artistic vision, my friend.

Cheers,
Doug

I totally love that thing!!! Great job.

I think this cream pickguard would fit my sparkle blue one, too...

Is it a custom job or where did you buy it?
