hardtail bridge. Vintage style

Post by 61fury »

Looking for a vintage style top loading hardtail bridge with that raised back lip and trapezoidal shape. It's for a Tele project I intend to hybrid with the Mustang/ Duo Sonic aesthetic. thanks, Jack

That could work, pretty cheap too. I'd hate to have to do the through body routing though.

Wallet permitting, the Danelectro bridge is similar but it's top loading. http://www.allparts.com/SB-5800-010-Dan ... _3341.html

Wasn't there a bridge like that Dano one on one of the Squier Jaguars?

As for the Toronado bridge, if you want one with barrel saddes rather than the strat style, look up the Musicmaster bridge on angela.com which I use on my projects. It's a through body as well, but if you're already considering that with the toro bridge it's another option.

I can do the bridge anytime later, I don't need it to get it on there now but I'll keep looking. If I do this Bridge ting I'll have to hunt down the plate for the bridge pick up too. I kind of like this part of projects, the hunt for parts. Drilling toploader holes , is that easy enough? I'm drilling my current Affinity bridge for the "Bubba mod" (As seen on TDRPI) anyway Thanks all. Jack

Well top loader holes won't be possible on a Toronado bridge, or any 6 saddle through body bridge. The Danelectro bridge (and the old Vintage Modified Jag/Jazz bridge) has the saddles screwed in from the bottom, allowing for through body.

Possibly make your own bridge plate with holes from a Mustang bridge?

Those dano bridges are shit.

I my Doom O Sonic 2 has one of these on it.

If you need 6 string adjustable and top loading Schaller is the only way to go.

Eh, You could pull it off with the Musicmaster bridge, it has barrel saddles with grooves in them like the Mustang bridge, but with grub screws. You'd just have to jack the saddles up some to give a decent break angle, but it ought to work as a toploader.

Here's the mock up. I'm ok with the standard bridge but I just got to thinking.

It's an Affinity with belly cut ,fore arm cut and a Mustang control plate. The paint looks great overall, my plug for the old control route is visible in person, overall I'm very pleased. The fictional backstory is , say after Beatlemania, Fender had a pile of unsold Teles so they tried to groovy it up with some mod touches, to sell to country kids who had Beatlemania.
I got the 3 barrel saddles to be more period correct, also that tippy toe of the stock saddles looks awful. It will also have the plastic Mustang knobs and I got some white plastic button tuners. A Gibson style 3 way toggle will go in the lowest hole. So the bridge I want would be more appropriate with this look.
Note: I don't have much interest in the Beatles.

Thank you very much. I always like that look of Strats from this angle, they look like they're melting, like Dali's clock. Strats from most other angles and in the usual colors bore me. Those cuts for me are more about sex appeal than functionality.
This is the third recoat on this thing, I hate to think about what I spent on paint. The Duplicolor GM light metallic blue and the mint pickguard I got from the Pawnshop Mustang. I had Reranch on the thing but I sprayed it way too blotchy. Even my wife, who cares nothing about guitars agreed.
It was going to have a big CBS headstock and rosewood fretboard but that's now reserved for a future Wayne Kramer Strat knock off project. I did ok with yellowing the Affinity neck and I like the way it looks with the rest.

It turns out I have a hardtail, string through bridge, I can see now why it's impossible to make it a toploader. That Musicmaster bridge would most likely involve a custom pick guard and other costly things, maybe when I get better at this. And since I don't have a 12" drill press I'm not going to try string through anytime soon, especially not after the paint finally worked.

Here's a control plate pic. It might have two Mustang knobs, but I like this too. That silver switch tip is just some odd thing lying around on my desk that happens to fit the switch thread. I like it, but these kind of things are easily changed.

Personally I think it would look better with two of the same knob, two different knobs looks hackish.
