Squier Mascis Jazzmaster vs Vintage Modified Jazzmaster
sound clips of Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster vs Vintage Modified Jazzmaster vs MIJ Fender Jazzmaster w/Mustang bridge & Pickup Wizard 58's

Seems i like the sound of the VM from the clips
$100 difference between the two...
someone also noted:
Some differences-
J.Mascis-satin neck, tune-o-matic style bridge, trem moved closer to bridge for better string break angle, jumbo frets, anodized pickguard, P90-style pickups (adjustable poles)
Vintage Modified-gloss neck, traditional bridge and trem placement, Duncan Designed true Jazzmaster-style pickups, medium-jumbo frets, 4 color options.

Meh, I listened the clips and prefered the Vintage Modified.
Surely this is really subjective.
For example I much prefer a Gloss neck to Satin. The JMJM has Satin and therefore is worse to me.
When you say Quality I want a real indicator namely in the fretwork, fit and finish, neckpocket or the hardware or electronics. Otherwise you're just talking about what you like.

sorry, just own the jmjm. But i think i know, what you mean. This guitar feels very qualitymade. I like the satin neck finish and the jumbofrets also as the p-90 like warm sounding pickups. I think i said it already, the vmjm sounds more as a traditional jazzmaster.
Only way out: Try both. Face by face.

I'd say that all of those things on the JMJM are better. I have the JMJM and a VM jag. I'd also say that adding all these things together, it just "feels better".Mike wrote:

Having said that, I love my jag, and probably play it more. Turns out Jags are the best thing since sliced bread. I keep wanting to buy a MIJ jag, or even an AVRI, but every time I come close, I can't put my finget on what more I would be getting (enjoyment wise) over the Squier.
A vintage jm, now that's a horse of a different colour.
