Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion

Post by johnnyseven »

I'm thinking about snapping one of these up to give it a go. I remember trying one years ago in a guitar shop and really liking it but i've not played one since. I also tried an SD1 clone recently, I liked it but it didn't have enough brightness for me and I was thinking that with the option of mixing in some distortion (DS1?) this may add a brigher tone. Anyone have an opinion on these pedals?

Currently my fave pedal.
I think it offers way better tone than a SD-1/DS-1, not sure exactly which circuits it is based on. It is brighter to my ears as well.

First impressions for listening to it through Podfarm, i'm liking it. It has a ton of distortion/drive on tap and can go way bright, even for me. It has a range on the colour knob between 10 and 2 o'clock that sounds great. I think I like the drive best between 9 and 11 o'clock but it also has some nice lower gain sounds. Looking forward to practice on monday to see if it can cut through the mix.

Sounds a bit like my OD-2 on mode 2 from demos I've heard. Want to try one at some point.

It's a great pedal, I've always had one on my board. They seem to go pretty cheap too.

They are ok, I'm not the biggest boss fan though. I did have one and ended up returning it, found the sound to be a little too thin.

my first ever drive pedal

lovely articulate, punchy, compressed, slightly fizzy, bright, good string separation are all things i'd say about it. i used it for low to mid gain sounds and rhythm and finger picking stuff. my favourite mustang 1 amp setting basically replicates the exact same tone

best sounds i got were drive between 9-10 oclock and colour between 9-11 o clock. set the tone so it's just inbetween grainy and fizzy (around 10-11 o clock)

the one problem is the range of tangible low mids and bass on tap but it still seems to cut through nicely.
