Cant make out whether its a Kahler or a Floyd, the square shape says Kahler but could just be the routing work.
Looks like they cut the top of the Jag trem plate off as well.
Haha, the 80's eh, a lot to answer for. A lot of vintage Offsets gor butchered in that era, half of them at the hands of Thurston Moore.
Different guitar, that one.. at least a different bridge setup to t'others.
Looks like foam to stop the behind-the-bridge ringeez... or maybe some kind of 'behind-the-bridge' pickup ala Sonic Yoof. Looks more like the former, though.
Who knows? I cant imagine a bunch of pot smoking students purchasing a ΓΒ£100+ Kahler, then fitting it so my guess is they acquired it this way. Could be wrong though.
They probably bought it that way, same way Mascis bought his first JM with a TOM and jumbo frets, and teh Kurdtz bought his Jag with a TOM and double DiMarzios. People had tried to make them more high-performance in the '70s and '80s when more intensive lead playing was en vogue and old Fender offsets were seen as obsolete junk guitars. An '80s Strat cost way more in the shops than a late '50s/early '60s Jazzmaster, both because they're less versatile guitars and because the bottom had dropped out of the Fender/Gibson market by the early '80s... buying a Jaguar and sticking a Kahler on it was once a cheaper option than buying a new Strat. We're much more retro nowadays, though it is worth noting that Fender themselves are updating these models to be more "modern" by moving the tailpiece and sticking TOMs and hawt pickups and flat fingerboards/bigger frets on 'em.

Makes sense. I'd say either 1. a retrofit tailpiece like the other one, except it was swapped back or 2. something to do with a mute/buzz stop-related retrofit

That's the same guitar, you can tell from the pixels tort pattern. They must've removed teh Kahler and taped over part of the gaping hole it left behind, further adding to the "she bought it that way" theory.

That actually makes the most sense.
