yeah sounds awesome dude. really great song. and nice vocals. the drums sound great, much better than I can program. :) what did you use to program them? the only thing that sounds a bit mechanical are the fills. I'm sure you know that the problem is that in a real drum fill each hit wont sound exactly the same. I guess you could play around with varying EQ and volume on each hit to make them sound unique. you could also try putting a very light amount of reverb on the cymbals and hi hat to sort of smooth them out a bit. they sound a bit in your face right now.

Is this an LRC original? It's Dino Jr-esque but I don't recognize it as a cover. It's a fucking rad song though man.

About the mix, the high-hat is a bit too high in the mix, my ear keeps picking it out, especially in a few spots where the high hat is a bit stuttered. I'd raise the snare a tad and lower the hihat.

Thanks! Its good to hear my vocals are tolerable, I have good enough ears to hear pitchy singing, but not the singing skills to sing un pitchy, haha. Yep its an original! This is actually the first song I've ever written and recorded all on my own. all the stuff about tipping tractors and burning barns is stuff I've actually messed up and done.

I just used the piano roll in logic to build the drum parts. I agree about the fills and hi hats being too loud. I'm going to go back and try hitting the humanize button and turning down the cymbals. Thanks for advice, you helped my ears hear something I didnt really think about, but now sounds totally obvious. And I can always go for loudes snare, so I'll mess with that. Im surprised that its actually fun to try and make drum parts, it was so frustrating trying to figure out the software, and I cant play real drums for shit

Yeah, I can't play drums for shit either even though they are one of the most important bits for a song for me. I've been mixing with my band's demo and the drums are difficult to get right, I really wish I had the control you do on this to make whatever bit you want louder. I have to EQ the shit out of the tracks to lower the cymbals since I only had two tracks to use to record drums on.

Mmm...noisy guitars. The vocal's pretty decent, and probably sounds better than you think. I'd like to hear more of this.

If you hadn't said the drums were programmed I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. Listening more closely there's something about the cymbals that sounds less-than-organic, but honestly that's only because I went in looking for it. The drum rolls are cool, btw - they help fool your ears into thinking there are 'real' drums on there. I guess you're effectively balancing the volume levels of multiple instruments when trying to keep snares, cymbals and kick drums in the mix. No mean feat, thinking about it.

Personally, I hate programming the drum track because I don't know much about how it's supposed to be put together, so it's way outside of my comfort zone. Annoying really, since the percussion is the 'framework' of a song that holds everything together...as a guitarist/bassist I hate to admit that my instrument(s) of choice is/are not the most important thing!

Not having the right software doesn't help, either. I've just finished a project where I struggled to get something passable out of the Beat Designer plugin of Cubase. I spent hours clicking and dragging drum maps to get the loops, but got frustrated at how it didn't let me do things like drum rolls and longer cymbal crashes...it was a pain in the arse actually. With that experience in mind, I'm doubly impressed with what you've done here. :)
