Affinity Tele Mustang Control plate Done
This is a lot of pics for me, some one tell me how to hide images, I couldn't figure it out. And I spent about an hour fighting with Photobucket.
I posted this looking for a more vintage Mustang or Duo Sonic bridge. It's finally done, doesn't really look like a guitar until the strings are back on. The 3 barrel saddles look great. It intonates fairly well, most strings are good, a couple are a bit flat, still green though, strings not too high. I can only play chords to about the 10th fret anyway. I twisted the truss rod a bit, not like I knew what I was doing. No buzz. Pickups sound good, even the cheap EY ceramic neck pick up. GFS Lil Puncher in the bridge for teh Kurdtz. I think he would have liked it as it's pretty light, about 7 pounds. The neck got a bit over tinted, like a Rondo but I'm not messing with it. the thin body, scorned in the Tele world, is appropriate for a Mustang ish project.
Tele jack, didn't want an Electrosocket.
White plastic tuners from Angela's instruments, cheaper than GFS, shipping cost much better too. It keeps in tune well.
I hate punny names ...ocaster, Muscastele, etc, and I wasn't going to call it a Fender.
Tummy cut and fore arm cut.
With my Epiphone, my botched first refinish attempt. The disaster behind that is my work bench, it's in the dining room.
Bunny is proud, here's her playing the original
Must be out of tune. And what it looked like
It was 100 bucks at a pawn shop. I love the look but it was cheap and there are so many of these around.
Build thread is unnecessary, months of sanding. Plugging the old control route was fairly straight forward. I traced the outline then cut an oversized angled piece and glued it in. It started showing up in the final polish but it's smooth and you can't see it in most light. Three attempts at paint, first ReRanch sprayed blotchy, second coat I sanded through everywhere, 3rd coat's a charm. Duplicolor GM light blue metallic and Minwax clear lacquer. Mint green pickguard from GFS, looks good. Obviously patterned off the Fender Mustang Special I owned briefly.

That is the cutest cat I've seen on the internet all day, and I saw four just from checking FB and another on the front page of Yahoo News.61fury wrote:

Thank you all. The control plate is a good match for the lower horn. No secret to the contours, low tech labor intensive sanding with heavy grit. I wasn't too strict about it, I did a survey of cuts on the internet and in person. When it was almost done I thought a thin line guard might have been a good match for the control plate, but still I'm very satisfied. Don't want the old PG holes showing so I'm not about to change it, maybe I could stick some cheap plastic gems over the holes. Bunny is a cutie, she's always comes over when I bring out a guitar.

Thanks again, 1st major cosmetic mod pics could be better. Yes, silly but my alternate history has Fender sitting on piles of unsold Tele's after Beatlemania, so some genius comes up with the idea of "groovying up " the Tele . The contours and white plastic tuners were part of the groovy attempt.
I was this close to putting comp stripes on it but I hate comp stripes Still considering it though.
