i dont think you can get better quality and value than a cv strat at the moment. i've owned the 50s and the 60s together (60s was amalgamated into my bratocaster).
the 50s is definitely my favourite though. the glossy fingerboard feels great and the alnico 3 pickups are wonderful. everything is top notch.
also, trems work fine on both although i hardtail them cos i switch between two tunings quite regularly

I've had 6-7 Strats in my life (never again!), but that one is actually my favorite that I've ever had. 60s Classic Fender and Aerodyne close behind.daftsupernova wrote:Yeah, I'd say either a CV or a Deluxe Strat is good. The Squier Deluxe has a 2-point trem and rolled fretboard edges and the neck is fucking great. It feels like it was made for me. I prefer the 2-point trem to a vintage 6-screw trem.
Plus, it's fucking sonic blue (but it also comes in pearl white, or metallic olympic white, as I call it)
Squier Deluxe Strat is a stellar guitar. If I ever get another Strat, it'll be that one.

I'm going to hereby guess that his guitar gets that "bell" sound because of... Lace Sensors. If you want that sound, you can put Laces in any guitar and it basically gets the same sound. Just saying... Laces are like built-in compressors.cobascis wrote:This one?

They are low-noise pickups w/ very low string pull thanks to 36 tiny magnetic fields instead of 6 in standard pickups. They can be set super close to the strings and have a very sweet sound that plays really well with pedals. Lot of 90s rock bands use or have used Sensors at some point: Radiohead (Jonny Greenwood, especially), The Breeders, Smashing Pumpkins, also dudes like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy.

I gave in and bought my first Strat in 2008 while in Japan, although before then I never thought I could use one. It took a full chunk of blown cash to realize the diversity of tone, from lovely clean neck sounds, to the "pop" and muted funk written all over positions 2 and 4 and bridge positions delightful tone pot-less clang. Now it's an indispensable part of the collection.
