Sonic Youth did not officially break up, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore did. From what Lee Ranaldo understands it's more of a hiatus than a disbanding, though that is the issue primarily responsible.

Ah.. and to think i knew him back in college when Uncle Tupelo was a cover band. We used to do a lot of shows together in central illinois, etc.. changing broken strings on Jay's SG at their first lounge ax gig where Jeff met his wife.
Funny.. after he established himself in chicago, he became the little darling around here -nothing against him. but everyone around here totally forgot abtou Jay Farrar.. IMO a better performer and player.
But everyone divided into the whole "david lee roth or sammy hagar" arguement.. "Jay or Jeff"?

Son Volt stuck around and played in St Louis for a while. I grew up in Belleville IL where Jeff is from, I had classes in high school with his nephew in fact. BTown kept propping up Ferrar for a while though he never really got to be as big as Wilco ended up.so1om wrote:Ah.. and to think i knew him back in college when Uncle Tupelo was a cover band. I'm in the "well you can get the stock bridge to work fine if you want, but if you have cash or want to do something because you feel you have to do something because you feel you are accomplishing something, go ahead" camp.
Cosmetic changes are one thing -express personality.
If you don't use the rhythm circuit and you knock into it all the time, i can see that.
If you slammed the toggle switch and the stem broke off, replace it.
but to change one brand of .022 cap for another brand of .022 cap, well... there is equipment that can show you the data that basically you did a lot of work for nothing.
I've always been able to get the Jazz/Jag/Tele bigsby bridge stable. It never entered my mind, "wow.. this needs to be replaced."
But that's just me.. You have "david lee roth vs. hagar" "jeff vs. jay" and "stock vs. mastery.."
