NGD - Baby Taylor with Camo top

Post by taylornutt »

My brother works for a sign shop and for some reason the artist Jewel had Taylor ship a couple of guitars to his shop. Unfortunately, the boxes took a beating and I think insurance totaled them. Anyway, his boss gave the "damaged" guitars to employees and my brother got the Baby Taylor. I had Jewel's custom logo on the top (kinda like the Taylor Swift Baby Taylor model does) so he decided to cover it in a camo sticker. He sold me the guitar for $100 because he doesn't play guitar enough.

The guitar is a 2011ish Baby Taylor and has no damage. It sounds the same as my Baby Taylor Rosewood, but has the Sapele laminate instead of the Rosewood laminate. The only other real differences in the two Baby Taylors is the tuners. Taylor has also really streamlined the gig bag design since I got my other Baby Taylor 10 years ago. My brother did a pretty decent job applying the Camo decal and cutting it to fit the top. I bought it because $100 Baby Taylor is a no brainer and a Camo guitar is pretty unique.

Does the camo sticker affect the resonance or tone of the guitar?

well since you have 2 baby taylor you can do a comparison video to find out how a camo sticker affects tone!

its an hpl top like he stated so..... as far as tone.... its probly more boomy and thumpy sounding than a solid top so i would imagine that the sicker maybe softens the normal thump.

ha ha.

i would yank that sticker off, dude. don't sour the $100 deal by knowing you have to wear high vis orange when you play that thing in the woods.

You make that sound like a bad thing. :) I am from Texas after all.

I will try to do a comparison but so far they sound pretty similar. Also my Rosewood Baby Taylor is 10 years older so that may affect the comparison as well.

It is absolutely a bad thing. Camo is for blending in the woods not standing out like a douche in the city.

I'm mostly complaining about redneck fashion but it still applies to the guitar.

I think it's hilarious.

Given unfettered access to a high end vinyl printer and a cheap acoustic guitar, I think I'd go for something like a mural though. Grazing cattle and a loyal hound dog...
