PRS CE22!!!

Post by Auriemma »

Back in November, I managed to acquire 2 PRS SEs (an 2008 Singlecut, and a 2012 Tremonti). Both great little guitars, yet inexpensive. The problem is, it gave me GAS for a USA made PRS. So last month, I was trolling through my local Sam Ash, and there on the wall was a 2007 CE22. The color caught my eye straight away, and I have always liked those Bird in lays. Tried it out... decided i had to have it. So I went home and picked out some guitars for trade in... and nearly drowned in the bath I took, but I didn't care. This thing is SWEET!!! The pics don't do the color justice.

Plays great, nice low action, excellent tone palette. A little heavy, but less that my LP. I have since changed the knobs out to cream bells. It has become my No. 1 electric. The previous owner took the gloss off the back of the neck.... SMOOTH! Now I understand why so many players like PRS. I later found out, this one is kinda rare. CE22s came stock with dot inlays, birds are special order.

You'll probably get some flak for that on this forum, but I always thought they were nicely finished. Nik Kershaw likes them too, and as he's a mean player, writer and producer I wouldn't argue with his choice. I just wish I'd bought the Artist Custom 24 that was 30% off when Sounds Great in Cheadle Hulme lost the franchise... now they're too expensive for me.

Best made instruments I've seen / played... although that's completely subjective. They're really responsive to adjustments too.

I've looked at these and always wondered whether it's worth paying the extra and getting the set neck custom series instead...

.... I will one day buy something like you have there.

I've always really liked PRS guitars. My JJ is very similar to a single cut - just with an offset body.

I play my tutors Custom 22 all the time and that is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played.

Best thing about that guitar is that it's a lefty.

I love the blue. I don't understand the PRS hate: They're well made, they sound good, they're not absolutely hideous. The only downside is the price tag.

Good score!

I suppose they probably are brilliant. I've never played one. I suppose I like things that are made cheaply, simply and cleverly, like how Fenders ought to be on paper.

You mean like the new SUPER-DELUXE BLOWJOB EDITION SELECT SERIES?

They seem like Fender's meagre stab at making a PRS-alike

I think a lot of the reason there is PRS-hate is the association with blues lawyers. I think as well the pricing is very excluding and to a certain extent is rather overblown considering the cost of similarly built guitars. But still they are amazingly built and well engineered guitars.

Congrats! A CE22 or 24 is probably going to be my next purchase. That top looks really nice for not being a 10 top. What pickups are in it?

Thanks.

Sorry Bacchus... its NOT a lefty (look at the pics again). But it is a bolt-on neck.. so that should brighten your view. The bolt-ons in the CE line are suppose to be better sounding and playing than the tenon neck versions. And if you like cheap... Look at the SE line of PRSi. You will very surprised.

Dillon... the top on the standards are gorgeous... as is this one. She has the stock Dragon II pups in her. They rock!

As for the haters... go ahead and hate. That means there will be more available for the rest of us!

I don't see anything wrong with any of those videos, rabrah.
Both of those bands, for better or worse, are the music of my youth. A youth which led to a crippling addiction to masturbation.

I have a custom 24 in the same color. PRS guitars are of excellent quality.

Yeah, that's when I started to get specifically sick of PRS through a Rectifier.
High end PRSs are very well made and play great, but I'm not really interested in them at that price point and not a big enough fan of the designs to go after the cheaper ones. I understand the attraction to them though, and remember when every guitar player at school in the mid 90s thought they were as high as you could aim.
The attention to detail on something like a CE22 can't be argued with, they're very nice to play.
