i do like the look of a worn in guitar, but generally only when its legit, and someone truly has been playing the hell out of a guitar for 10+ years, when you pay a stupid amount of cash for one that looks that way its stupid, i agree ^

So many companies are buying into this look nowadays. It's silly. I guess it gives their finishing people a reason to be lazy. They're just fuck it up afterwards anyway.

I don't believe Gibson is doing this yet.. BIG surprise actually.

Absolutely. Real wear looks cool because the instrument has been used and appreciated, and all those dents, scratches and botched repairs tell a story of sorts. The JM that belongs to that dude from MONO is a genuine 60s guitar and sounds great. It's also beat up to hell but still looks awesome. You can't buy memories of eventful shows where it got bashed and scraped.

Sentimentality aside, it takes skill and knowledge to make a nice guitar finish; it takes a lot less to make a distressed one. My issue with paying over the odds for these guitars is that you're paying for something that anyone can do.

exactly, and well put, i saw that dude jazzmaster up close, (i was about 6 feet away) and the other dudes 70's strat is also balls to wall badass! I love the sunburst finish with the slight arm wear, especially when its just a bit lighter and barely goes down to the bare wood.
they never actually do that right with relic guitars, its always straight to the fucking wood with little to no variant and then they want 1,000.00 extra for it, fuck that shit!
and shit man, if its custom shop or master built, then it should have an amazing nitro lacquer finish that shines for days and everything is immaculate on the bastard!
but thats just my own opinion and if i were to shell out over 2 grand for something thats what i would want. there has to be a market, somewhere for these things, otherwise they wouldn't still be fucking with them, it seems that they came into style around the late 90s, early 2000's and about 15 years later they are still fucking doing it, so there are some dumb ass douche whistles out there still buying them up.
and what would the description of a re-sale one. "mint" reliced strat? that doesn't make any sense, i could imagine the listing. " there are no extra dings anywhere, that shouldn't already be there!" kept in case, never gigged, blah blah blah blah.
