Hum from amp

Post by finboy »

I finally got a cab for my ac30, but it has a bit of hum when I turn the amp on (like 60 cycle hum), aven with well grounded/humbug er guitars. The pots aren't scratchy, but it did sit in a dusty room for a couple of years. When I turn the volume down on one of the two channels (even when plugged into the other channel), the hum dissipates.

Any ideas?

My AC30 always hummed. It was quieter when I fitted new valves to it, but it still hummed a bit.

It seems all my amps have a hum and they always tell me it's grounding issues.

on a serious note, make sure its not backed up against a wall with alot of electrical running thru it, and that its not right next to any florescent fixtures.
those tend to want to make tube amps hum a bit more than normal.

Having televisions, computers and dimming switches for your lights also contributes as well as the florescents. Plug it into a different outlet in another part of the house and see if its still there.

It's a handwired head reissue, not backed against any walls, will try it in some other areas
