I love the colour, but it is 80's as fuck and has been hacked badly. I love les Paul's, but don't want a boat anchor and don't think this is worth the asking price.

YouTube vids claim the neck work was done by a pro, bridge pickup isn't original

yeah...... i think its probly worth more like 800.00 but im not too greased on the gibson second hand market, so i could be wrong, but.... man.... i dunno about all that.... sanding......

If you just want a player and it's not too expensive, do it. But don't get any ideas about restoring it to any kind of appreciable value.

I have a 1971 Deluxe that I got for Â£700 in 2006 on eBay. Issues:

1. Neck break at the join with the body - well repaired, but ya know...
2. Routed out for full-size humbuckers. Badly. Got that sorted out, and found out the humbuckers were Tim Shaws. WIN.
3. Bridge and tailpiece replaced.
4. Lame amateur relic job - sanded down to primer in all the usual places.
5. Needed a re-fret

I spent maybe Â£500 on having all that little lot sorted out, including what turned out to be a shit re-fin, which cost me another Â£100 to have a guy on Denmark St. make the best of a bad job. So now I have a Â£1400 guitar that is the world's oldest broomstick. I'll never do that again.

That said, after sulking at it for around five years, I picked it up again last year and totally fell in love with it. Runs rings around my VOS 1956 reissue. It all worked out alright in the end, but what, in my naivety 7 years ago seemed like a smart purchase was anything but. Re-sale value? Probably Â£700 if I'm lucky.

Went to try it out, fell in love with it, bought it, have a guitar that will likely n even increase in value but plays like a dream.

i really can't imagine that it was such a nice playing guitar that you paid the full amount. that seems silly to me, but to each thier own, take some better pics of that beast.

Guy wouldn't budge unfortunately, I saw his email and there was quite a few emails from kijiji with people interested. The joys of living in an oil and gas town, lots of people with more money than sense. I have been looking for a les Paul since I started playing guitar, and don't feel an ounce of buyers remorse over this, it feels fantastic in every way and sounds great (unlike that pos Eastwood I bought, ugh).

Will get more shots this weekend, going to play it tonight at a buddy's place, hopefully can get some clips going.

As long as you like it and it's a keeper then you're OK. The resell value doesn't really matter. How's the weight?

Much to my girlfriend's dismay I rarely sell gear, weight is actually less than my mid 80's Epi lp, a bit more than my jag/Jm's, if I had to guess it would be around 9-10 lbs. I would guess part of that is from the material removed from the guitar. It is by no means a lightweight, but very manageable.

I think if you go with black it will over look a bit thrown together or if you use enough black to avoid that it will make the blue look too dull and grey.

The only part I would consider changing (other than perhaps replacing the burnt pickup ring with a new cream one) would be the knobs. Chrome bell knobs would look cool.
