what is your favorite post grunge guitar?

When he died, grunge died commercially.Malik wrote:It's unfair on all the other grunge bands to say that when Kurt killed himself, he killed grunge too. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, they still carried on. Pearl Jam and Mudhoney still ARE going.
Pearl Jam and Mudhoney are still going, but I'm not sure I'd call them grunge anymore - Mudhoney use horns in loads of their songs - not very grunge really. Guitars are still fuzzy as hell though.
It took me a while to get into Pearl Jam. I used to listen to solely Nirvana, and then I started getting into Soundgarden soon after, but I never really thought the Pearl Jam sound really fitted. Alas, I grew up and now think they're awesome, but they're really not that grungey, just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time.

I don't like the Jag-stang at all. Not because it's teh KurDtZz or because "it can't stay in tune" a la FuckstickBytes, but because of the shitty shape. It's just way too mega for my liking... oh and also not really a fan of the controls either.
I voted the Jaguar H-H because it's just basically a Jaguar without a trem. I can dig that. Just change the shitty stock pups and you're good to go!

i could have listed the numerous kurdtz mustang and jaguar dupes and knoffs, but theres nothing special about them.
the cyclone ss is just a duo-sonic with contours and a extra 3/4" on the scale. and really doesn't reflect the impact "commercial grunge"
had on commercial guitars.
also putting a super-sonic in the polls, is like putting a Mopar Charger in a race with Volks-Wagon Things and MG Midgets, lol.
also, i didn't want this poll to mimic the "favorite new breed" poll.
***edit***
c0bain lost 33% of his money making abillity towards the end,
grunge was either gonna get heavier and implode or,
become hollow and frail, let down it's guard and let "Mickey mouse"
take over, regarless.
also, the jag-stang was flawed in kurdtz mind, unbalanced,
wrong trem (no trem), wrong switching devise, and contours.
if it was truly done and worth realising, fender would have made
proper fitting p'guards, and better p'ups.
they could have at least modded the "horn" to fit the p'guard.

All the new breeds are post-grunge guitars... they were all influenced by grunge, so that arguement does not stand.b-spot wrote:i could have listed the numerous kurdtz mustang and jaguar dupes and knoffs, but theres nothing special about them.

I do agree with you about the jag-stang though. Kurt died before his modifications to the jag-stang were made by fender, but they went ahead and started production on it anyways. They should have at least talked to his guitar tech about what kurt wanted to change on it, so that they could release the signature model as close to what Kurt actually wanted. Everything about the jag-stang just looks uncomplete IMO. The body looks unbalanced, is uncomfortable as hell without contours, and the pickguard doesn't even fit the bottom horn!

no... A cyclone is nothing like a duo. All cyclones are 24 3/4, and have contours. The only diff between the Cyclone HH/HS/SS is the pickups and switching. I was just puzzled by why you would say "Cyclone HH HS" and not include the SS too. No biggie.b-spot wrote: the cyclone ss is just a duo-sonic with contours and a extra 3/4" on the scale. and really doesn't reflect the impact "commercial grunge"

Would you say they're head and neck above?also putting a super-sonic in the polls, is like putting a Mopar Charger in a race with Volks-Wagon Things
My dad had an MG midget. How dare youand MG Midgets, lol.

For me, it's the Jag-Stang AND Jaguar HH, I can't really choose as both are good platforms. The Jag-Stang may not have the countours, but does it really need em? And the Jaguar HH, the only thing I don't like about that one is the lack of a trem system, but I definatley would buy one and put some PAF style hums in it over any Les Paul any day.
billy 3000, the arguement does stand because, it's easy to cop out and say that they were all influenced by(after) grunge.
but it's just as easy to say they were influenced by what guitarists demanded from there guitars at the time.
to be individual, shortscale, hums, and sturdy.
after 1980, guitars tended to be based around public demand.
notice how tom delonge broke his deal with fender and switched back to gibsons.
well, the seeing as how the public still liked blink-182 and the delonge strat, fender chose to create the bullet special. in order to maintain a steady flow of sales and money.
also jagermeister, minus the contours and the scale(which i mentioned)
the cyclone has basically the same body, switches and pickguard as a duo-sonic.
the cyclone ss doesn't quite reflect "grunge" well enough, unlike it's humbuckerededed siblings. but i can see why you'd think it.
oh yeah billy, technically all guitars are post grunge, 1994 and on.
sory to sound relatively bitter

heh. no. Well I guess that depends on what you mean by basically. But the cyclone has an offset body, unlike the MIM Duos, and the pickguards are really pretty diff... not interchangable at all, cyclone has metal control plate etc. I'd post pics to compare them, but enough pics of those guitars have been posted around here and I'm lazy.b-spot wrote:

And if you mean the old Duo Sonic IIs, they have the offset body, but completely different switching and pickguard.
Yea the demand for short scale guitars with humbuckers was a product of the grunge music scene. Not just because that's what guitar players wanted. They wanted the grunge guitar look, the short scale and the humbuckers... thus the guitars were influenced by grunge. Now though with the Toronado GT, and the Cyclone II's with jag pickups, I'd say they're moving away from the grunge appeal.b-spot wrote:billy 3000, the arguement does stand because, it's easy to cop out and say that they were all influenced by(after) grunge.

Tom Delonge did not "switch back to gibsons". He always played a Fender except for a very very brief period after Dude Ranch came out where he played a Les Paul. He only switched to Gibson because they probably offered him more money. Although I can't imagine that he gets much money off of the Gibson signature model because I don't think anyone is willing to spend $2400 on it! Don't try to argue anything about Blink with me, I used to be a blink fanatic.

they would have owed the tech a royalty in that case. i know it's a shitty reason, but they already shell out dough to teh c0urtneez for using teh kuhrdtz name.Billy3000 wrote:They should have at least talked to his guitar tech about what kurt wanted to change on it, so that they could release the signature model as close to what Kurt actually wanted.
