Squier Jaguar bridge problems

I finally bought a Wilkinson Bridge so I can put the TOM back on my SG. I should get it by Wednesday, hopefully.

I reckon it's much more hassle to shim and fuck about with the neck than just to vaseline the grub screws, file the grooves, and tape the bridge posts.

shimming the neck on my jaguar took like 10-15 minutes while I was changing strings, and the TOM literally just dropped into place as well. it was unbelievably simple.

Well it took me about 10 minutes to vaseline and file the screws (Gavin had already taped it when I got it), and I didn't have to take the neck off. Better than buying and waiting for a bridge and then having to take off the neck to do another mod anyway. Horses for courses and all that, but I reckon it's just as easy to fix as it is to replace.

The bridge arrived two days ago, and it's on the Jag, with the TOM back on the SG, which now has 8s.

It was a very tight fit, I had to keep it even and smack it down. Took me maybe 20-30 minutes to intonate and fine tune it, and it's really great. It's much more comfortable to rest my hand on than the TOM was, and easier to intonate as well. However, I had to push the bridge all the way back and flip the G saddle around to get it to intonate, but after that, everything was awesome. Today, I went off and bought some 8s to put on the SG and I don't remember it sounding as good as it did with the 8s.

The low string in a set of 8s is the same as the D string I use, that must be floppy!

Kind of. I mean, in comparison to 10s on the Jag, yeah, but it feels natural. It works really well since the neck is already pretty wide and chunky; it makes my Jaguar neck seem tiny in comparison, it really surprised me when I picked it up after playing with the SG. Plus, the extra little bit of slack makes it sound huge. I would definitely recommend trying it out at least once on a Les Paul or SG.
