I ordered a new SG standard 2013 model in natural burst. They were out of stock at Long and McQuade, so I have to wait for them to get more from Gibson. They told me it would be about 4 weeks. Kind of glad about that though, as I won't be getting one off the floor or from the warehouse. The wait is killing me though.

I'm glad about the smallguard. I think it looks classier with it.
There will be a NGD thread and maybe a video.

Here's what my SG (Er, Epiphone G-400) used to look like. This is the 1966 edition, which I'm guessing just means that they put a full guard on it and called it a day. The bridge from this is on my Jaguar for now, but I've just ordered a replacement so this SG is coming back into action soon

The headstock is blank, stuff like this was all made in a couple of factories then they would slap a brand on after it reached foreign shores. I guess there was no major importer here in NZ to rebrand them at the time.
I've had a look at a few catalogues, but haven't seen many similar, it's basically a vintage fake.

Pictured with the only record I ended up buying on record store day. hmm.

Awesome, are those P90 humbucker size pups in it now Dub? Looks lovely

All bets are on todays auction for the Shaftesbury, hope it does not go to silly prices, found a similar one sold last year for over Â£250!

Also do not like Epiphone SGs, I had a black one years ago mid~late 90s and it had a horrible (bolt on) neck. Don't like their chopped off ends headstock much either.

Didn't get any 70s copies as they were either too expensive or just looked odd. So went with what I know and got a Vintage VS6
Not entirely sure what model variant it is though as it is obviously a factory relic so it should be part of their Icon Series, except this one I have has fretboard binding - which is something I was looking for.
Only SGs they ever did with binding was the old Deluxe series, so this might be a new version of the Icon relic series?

Been a long time since a played a SG and had forgotten about the neck being stuck right out on the end of the body. Makes for a stretch when sitting down.

All Epiphone SGs are not created equal. I originally purchased mine second hand for peanuts just to have something with humbuckers on hand when recording & it's got to the point where it gets more play than any other guitar I own!

Yeah I know and understand that they are not all created equal but that last Epiphone I had I hated the neck and I was buying sight unseen as no time to go to the City and try out stuff.
So guessing that a Vintage (brand) SG would likely have the same neck dimensions as the Vintage (brand) Les Paul I have (which is major comfy) I took the gamble.

Most SGs I've played have had wildly different necks (especially the copies). This 61 reissue I had was a great player but the neck was too skinny, I kept bending the notes flat when I played it:

The Teal SG Special I had was great. It pissed all over the 61. I kinda regret getting rid of it. It had a fat neck but was narrow at the nut so it was PERFECT:

Some pics then? (although we all know what a Vintage VS6 ICON looks like - except this one has fretboard binding)
It's a ex shop demo, so has a few extra worn bits which are kinda strange as they shouldn't be, but for the price I paid I'm not complaining.

The speed knobs have to go though.

I can now safely say with a completely straight face to any blueslawyer type I meet, when asked, that I own both a Vintage SG and a Vintage Les Paul now

It's fine, pretty much the same profile as the Vintage LP I have so not a bad gamble there. The only niggle I have is the "offset" as the lower frets are further away and you have to reach for them, not like when playing the LP in your lap, that is too comfy.

Oh and the tuners on this SG buzz as well (they do on the lp, must be a Wilkinson thing) so a tuner upgrade will be in the near future.

Unlike the LP it's lovely and light, it's basically a plank compared and I can bash hell out of it
