BJFE Honey Bee Overdrive

Post by Gabriel »

I've been reading online about this pedal but haven't really heard one, so I was wondering what people's experience of them was. I've read that they're based on a Proco Rat, but are quite different.

So what I was wondering is just how different is the Honey Bee overdrive to a Rat?

Comparing the schematics, the 'nature' control of the Honey Bee allows you to blend soft or hard clipped signals. The Rat is always hard clipping. The tone circuit of the Honey Bee is different to the Rat, and it has an input boost stage.

My old rat is just such a perfect pedal in certain situations. It's become a go to pedal to get people's attention. It's like a air horn. It's wake the fuck up and look here for a second. I just wish mine had a light to tell me when it's on. It can be obnoxious. I don't really like the newer ones. Mine has the lm 308 chip or whatever. I'm terrible at describing sound but it puts a really sharp edge on everything with the way i set it. I guess kinda like what i believe the old dallas arbiter rangemaster would sound. I can get these Marc Bolan sounds with it. It may be because of the way my amps and everything is set but i am big fan of the rat.

That's kinda how I used to use mine. I wish I still had it.

Think nickd has one of these in an Mbm dual pedal. Think lee ranaldo is a user of one.
