Strat Knobs with Set Screw

Post by Walnut »

Does such a thing exist? And where can I buy them? I need them for my vintage 'Stang with solid shaft pots.

I looked for some time anf found none. Unless they are made of chrome or something like that.

Has anyone successfully made one from scratch? Drill out the threads from the inside of a Strat knob and then put in a set screw?

Strat knobs for solid shaft pots don't have a set screw, they just press firmly on (I'm not sure the knobs themselves are even threaded but they may be nowadays). Just get some AV strat or jazzy knobs, or aftermarket US spec ones from guitarpartsresource. The AV and CS RI strats are done this way, it's possible to twist them too far past 10 with too much force though not that easily; you don't do it accidentally after the first time.

Just to clarify, you are saying that AVRI Jazzmasters/Strats have solid shaft pots yet still use "Strat stlyle" knobs? And the knobs used on the AVRIs are different from other Strat style knobs because they don't have threads?

I'm not sure I follow what you mean, I don't think I've ever come across any knobs that screw on, unless you mean they have a tiny screw going through the side to attach it more securely?
