Are Mustang pickups meant to be so weak?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

Truly horrible. Keep us posted on what you find when you test each one!

I had the same problem with my mustang to..
Low output, thin sound and not much sustain. And only 2,7 ohm.

Then i buyed some dimarzio humbuckers in single coil format.
Have enjoyed it all since.

I dont think your pickups are broken or anything.
Theyre suposed to sound that way.

Moon, 2.7k ohm is way too low for guitar pickups. They aren't supposed to be that low.

OK this is strange. Individually the pickups measure 5.5K each. Any ideas anyone?

You what? That Marshall is in the house of the eBay seller ookini55 in Japan, she photographs all the guitars she sells in front of it. I've bought from her a couple of times and she's outstandingly helpful.

Nice one. I must admit that particular Marshall is not mine, I do have a 100W DSL and a 50W Vintage Modern in the house, and some smaller amps.

Scary! I will admit that I am frightened of my Twin Reverb, god knows what I'd do with SERIOUS amplification.

I'm just so disorientated by the long streams of posts unaccompanied by avatars in this thread. Nothing that made sense before makes sense anymore. Am I this 69RI Mustang and are the pickups my nipples?

Your pups are all fine. Don't measure them in the circuit or you won't get a correct reading.

If they're too quiet, just raise the pickups so they're nearer the strings.

this is the correct measurement i'm sure

i think you may have been measuring them incorrectly previously. i measure them at the two solder points on the bobbins

anyway it sounds about right for "vintage" voiced pickups.

a vintage 50s voiced strat will hover under or just over 6k
